The band were formed by Mark Perry who was editor of punks first fanzine, the infamous Sniffin Glue (recently compiled into a book by Sanctuary). They quickly rose to become one of the most important punk/new wave bands in Britain during 1977-79. This CD features the band at the height of their creative power and many of their most popular live numbers are included, such as Love Lies Limp and Viva La Rock n Roll.
A version of this CD was originally released in 1993 as a limited edition which quickly sold out. With the recent discovery of the original tapes by Italian journalist Red Ronnie, Overground and Mark Perry couldnt resist the opportunity to re-master and re-package the CD, adding extra tracks, re-design the artwork and expand the sleeve notes.
It was Ronnie who recorded Alternative TV at the Meanwhile Gardens Free Festival in August 1978. 3 of the tracks - 'Alternatives', 'Fellow Sufferer' and 'Graves Of Deluxe Green' - were released by Ronnie on a 7" EP on the Nice label, given away free with Red Ronnie's fanzine, Bazar, in 1980. Alternative TV's performance at Meanwhile Gardens captures the band during the period of transition between 'The Image Has Cracked' and 'Vibing Up The Senile Man'. It was the first time the 'Vibing' material was played live, although 'Release The Natives' and 'The Good Missionary' were premiered the previous month on the John Peel show. Here & Now guitarist, Steffie Sharpstrings, helps out on drums for a couple of the songs.
