Product Description

A two-novel collection featuring Sheriff Frank Littlefield, whose tiny Appalachian community has its share of supernatural mysteries.

THE RED CHURCH
Book I in the Sheriff Littlefield Series

For 13-year-old Ronnie Day, life is full of problems: Mom and Dad have separated, his brother Tim is a constant pest, Melanie Ward either loves him or hates him, and Jesus Christ won't stay in his heart. Plus he has to walk past the red church every day, where the Bell Monster hides with its wings and claws and livers for eyes. But the biggest problem is that Archer McFall is the new preacher at the church, and Mom wants Ronnie to attend midnight services with her.
Sheriff Frank Littlefield hates the red church for a different reason. His little brother died in a freak accident at the church twenty years ago, and now Frank is starting to see his brother's ghost.
The Days, the Littlefields, and the McFalls are descendants of the original families that settled the rural Appalachian community. Those old families share a secret of betrayal and guilt, and McFall wants his congregation to prove its faith. Because he believes he is the Second Son of God, and that the cleansing of sin must be done in blood.
"Sacrifice is the currency of God," McFall preaches, and unless Frank and Ronnie stop him, everybody pays.

DRUMMER BOY
Book II in the Littlefield Series

On an Appalachian Mountain ridge, three boys hear the rattling of a snare drum deep inside a cave known as The Jangling Hole, and the wind carries a whispered name.
It’s the eve of a Civil War re-enactment, and the town of Titusville is preparing to host a staged battle. Sheriff Frank Littlefield doesn't want to believe the local legend that a ghostly troop of Civil War deserters is stirring in the Hole. But one dead soldier is intent on returning home.
And one misfit kid is all that stands between the town and the cold mouth of hell…

From bestselling mystery, thriller, and paranormal author Scott Nicholson (Speed Dating with the Dead, Disintegration, Liquid Fear). Nicholson has also written seven story collections, four screenplays, two children's books and three comic book series. DRM-free.

Good and scary story 12 Dec 2011
By Lawrence H. Edwards - Published on Amazon.com

I'm only 1/5th of the way through this book, and I can't help but think that it is a good story, but the writting is amateurish. I've never read a book (and I've read many in my 57 years), where the spoken parts aren't contained in quotes and I find myself wondering if the sentence is supposed to be a thought or a verbal statement. It is hard to find books that aren't high-priced for my kindle, so I guess I've compromised my reading to a new level. Anyway, don't skip this book because of what I said.
Littlefield: Two Supernatural Thrillers 7 April 2012

In this book you can read two different stories: The Red Church and Drummer Boy.
I enjoyed the first story more than the second. In The Red Church the atmophere is a lot spookier and the characters are well described. I particularly enjoyed the family tension and the way the author depicts the reactions people have under the influence of some kind of religious fanatic sect.
Honestly Drummer Boy was a little harder to finish. I felt like skipping a couple of pages every now and then and civil war ghosts are kind of meaningless to me since I'm European. What I did like, again, is the way some characters are described and the conflicts they fight: family conflicts (father / son), sexual orientation conflicts (Vernon Ray), and moral dilemma (sheriff Littlefield and his ability to get in trouble with forces he can barely deal with).
I gave it three stars because both stories are quite entertaining even though they lack some depth.
Supernatural but not super. 30 Mar 2012

I branched out a bit with these two. Yes, there are two supernatural thrillers in one purchase.
I liked the main characters, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief quite enough.
Still, not a bad read, if the price is right.
I was a big Dean Koontz fan, at least until lately, when he seems to be phoning in his novels. This isn't far off.
