Georgia Brown was truly GREAT!,
By Jack Gardner "Jack!" (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Little of What You Fancy / Will Ye No Come Back Again (Audio CD)
I cannot say enough about how much I love the 12 Georgia Brown tracks on this CD. They sparkle and shine and ssound like they were recorded yesterday. Georgia Brown lends her particular charm to such Cockney Favourites as "Don't Dilly Dally On The Way" "Ta-ra-ra Boom De Ay!" and my personal favourite "A Little Of What You Fancy".You can't get more joyous than that! The Lydia MacDonald tracks are lovely, but in a very different vein than the Georgia Brown tracks and make for a rather odd compliation - however the tie in is the orchestra backing both singers - the multi talented Ted Heath and his Music. I enjoy the Lydia MacDonald tracks, but for me - the Georiga Brown numbers steal the show.

Georgia Has a Great Knees-up!,

This review is from: A Little of What You Fancy / Will Ye No Come Back Again (Audio CD)
I had three vinyl GB albums but this was the one I put on to cheer me up. It's loud, brassy, exhuberant, infectious. Georgia was the only one who could visit these songs and render them with such authority given her East End upbringing. It was done in one afternoon at Decca's West Hampstead studios, Ted Heath's band turning in suitably wild and enthusiastic support to Georgia's amazingly sexy voice. The other two albums - another on Decca, one from Capitol - have disappeared. Surely time to disintern them.
