This is a wonderful album. At first I thought the 'Norwegian Joni Mitchell' tag was over the top, but after a few listens I'm beginning to think this is spot on. There are other influences of course: at times she sounds how Bjork might have sounded if she'd gone towards jazz rather than electronica, and she can also sound like a less ambient version of Mum. On tracks such as Little Girl and Ease, the spirit of David Bowie during his Anthony Newley period creeps in, but this is no bad thing as the more playful tracks are balanced by beautiful songs like Searching, True Love and Displaced, in fact her voice reminds me of a more gentle Billie Holliday. The programming perfectly complements the use of such instruments as tuba, saxophone, clarinet, vibraphone and banjo, and the mood is enhanced by touches such as the softly running water in the background of Cast Anchor.
