More About the Author

Hello, I'm Steve Smallman. I'm an author and illustrator of children's books, a muralist, a poet(sort of)and a bit of a show off!I started working as an illustrator while I was still at art college then after about 20 years decided to have a go at writing stories of my own. I've written over 40 books so far (more in production!) and these days I'm better known as an author than as an illustrator.I'm married to Ann (Who is wonderful and has a proper job!)we have 4 children who are all grown-ups and 4 fabulous grandchildren!
I'm not very good at being a grown-up so I write books, illustrate, paint murals and visit schools all over the UK and abroad keeping so busy that no-on notices that I don't have a real job!

Our boys (3 & 6)absolutely love this book. We'd had it for a while but it really came into it's own when we took it on a recent holiday. The eldest read it to the youngest every morning whilst we were still in bed and he got more and more expressive and louder each day, with little one joining in with the rudest bits. The only problem with this rather rude (and very funny) book is that our youngest often, out of the blue says 'a well-timed botty bubble' which confuses lots of people who are not in the know! Go on - give it a go as long as you don't mind toilet humour. I have just bought some more titles from the same series and have high hopes of them.

I have now read countless books to my son over the past few years and some are more of a chore than others; but I'm proud to write that this book is a little wonder. The plot concerns the titular 'Little Stinker' - a flatuent fish with a perchant for stinking out Davy Jones's Locker. It's all in rhyme and flows rather nicely. I would imagine that this book would suit boys rather than girls due to the nature of the topic, but I'll try reading it to my nieces to test this fact. The illustrations are colourful and complement the plot perfectly.

This is a great book for those that don't mind a bit of 'toilet-type' humour! Little Stinker is a fish with a 'rear-end' wind problem and I found the book very funny. My daughter wanted it read to her again and again, but I'm not sure that she found it funny in the same way, probably because she's not inhibited! Great illustrations. Recommended as an original book and at least it's written in 'proper' English!

This has been the bedtime book of choice by my nearly three-year-old since we got it. It makes us both laugh every day.
The story is the perfect length for him. He is still finding new things to look at in the pictures even after a month. A great book for this age-group.

If I'm uber picky, I could say that the writing isn't perfect, but I don't think my son has noticed.

This is a great story, my son loves this book, the pictures are so bright and colourful, he would spend an age looking through the pictures. The story is funny and fun and would recommend this to everyone.
