Nothing less than fantastic,

I got this CD on Monday from Amazon as it is not yet released here in Australia and I have to say that every track is fantastic! Lulu has such a powerful voice its so smokey and smooth and it really is apparent on the songs she has chosen on this CD. There are no fillers every track is great though my favourites are Try A Lttle Tenderness and Gateway to Heaven. You can really feel all that emotion on Tenderness. You will find you cant keep still when this cd is on loud. Lulu has given new life to these soul classics any reviewer that gives this one the thumbs down has not been honest or not listen to the whole album. My only dissapointment is that is not a double CD. Hopefully a voulme 2 soon. Do yourself a favour all you lovers of soul and good music get this one!

Lulu covers some classic soul,

The seemingly unstoppable Lulu bounces back with yet another stellar offering to the delight of her legions of fans and to confound her critics once more. Extending her recording and performing career well beyond the 40 year mark, this latest release is supervised by no less than Sir Elton John, an artist who's career Lulu predates by many years and who first collaborated back in 1969 with an abortive attempt at writing Lulu's Eurovision Song Contest entry.Lulu's last offering was the truly remarkable "Back on track" that hit the stores about eighteen months ago and reaffirmed Lulu's commitment to making music with soul and heart and highlighted her talents brilliantly. Unfortunately, that exceptional album was not a commercial success and that could be the reason why this CD is more of a retreat onto more comfortable ground, presenting Lulu's take on classic soul hits rather than offering much in the way of new material. Not that there's anything wrong with either the choice of tracks or the Scottish lasses interpretation of the classic numbers. "Put a little love in your heart" might be the stand out track, but every song stands up well with the possible exception of the rather uninspired version of "The shoop shoop song." The weakest link in this 11 track release is ironically the only new song included, the self penned "Gateway to heaven." Lulu just goes from strength to strength and continues to work with the best producers and arrangers to showcase her extraordinary talents. Hopefully the next album will be new material and Lulu can leave the cover market to her erstwhile contemporaries.

This album is quite a good one and one you'll find yourself playing a time or two.
Lulu is in good voice and the best soul covers on this CD are "Baby I Need Your Loving", "You Send Me" and "Try A Little Tenderness". A good CD but not Lulu's best, try "Back On Track" if you want a great CD.
