This updated version of the traditional fairy tale is a delight in every way! The rhyming format of the story makes it great fun to read aloud and the wonderfully imaginative and colourful illustrations will enchant both adults and children alike. The characters are drawn in a contemporary style (Little Red Riding Hood in a red duffle coat and wellies!) and with great humour. Look out for the cheeky cat and mischevous mouse! The wolf is certainly Big and Bad but not too scary for very small children. The whole story romps along at an exciting pace which will keep even the smallest listener enthralled and the 'flip-flap' style will help the child to interact with the book for hidden surprises. A thoroughly enjoyable book to share with small children.

Dreadful 28 Dec 2008
Format:Paperback
With so many great children's books to choose, don't go for this one. The language is ponderous and changed from the language that makes the original great. If you can't get "All the better to see you with, my dear" into Little Red Riding Hood, you're not trying very hard. Several words and ideas are changed from the original for apparently no reason (the woodcutter is now a lumberjack and the grandmother a gran). And the story all finishes with a delicious cake for everyone. This is one of the few stories I would hide from my two-year old daughter so that I didn't have to read it to her - but it isn't necessary as she has no interest in it either. Avoid.
