The King Volume 2,
By
This review is from: Little Richard Volume 2 (Audio CD)
No brainer. BUY IT!
Between 1957 and 1959, Specialty (London American in the UK) released 3 Little Richard albums, "Here's Little Richard", "Little Richard Volume 2" and, "The Fabulous Little Richard". As was the habit at the time they were essentially comprised of current or future singles and flip sides plus odd studio material that hadn't made the grade . This is the second of those albums. All my words describing the first Richard album, viz. "Every track is a bona fide Rock'n'Roll classic etc.", are still relevant here - please see my other reviews. There are no differences in level of intensity between volumes 1 and 2. The only difference that I can spot, is in the material. Whereas the majority of this is very up-tempo boogie cum jump blues, done as only Richard can, with the occasional slowie thrown, this album has a couple of oldies, "By the light of the Silvery Moon" and, "Baby face". Both, needless to say, are excellent. "Babyface" is taken at breakneck pace with the band and Richard racing for the finish. "Moon" is also taken fast with the band riffing furiously. Domino would sometimes pick up oldies to cover but none of them sounded like this. I only wish there were 6 stars....
