Product Description

Available for the very first time on DVD, ten original Little Red Tractor Stories, narrated by Brian Glover and Richard Briers. Stan, Patch and the Little Red Tractor are joined by a host of colourful friends as they set out on daring adventures, saving the day and coming to the rescue, just in the nick of time. How did Jeremy the friendly old Shire horse come to stay at the farm? Why is the loyal Patch suddenly so sleepy... it s unlike her to go missing when theres work to be done? A cunning fox is seen slyly heading towards Gosling Farm, who will guard and protect the helpless ducks and chickens? And why is Stan hanging upside down from Stumpy s windmill? We also get the chance to follow the real Stan and Little Red Tractor as they go about their daily work on a real farm, planting new crops and learning to care for new-born lambs and puppies, impatiently awaiting new owners at their kennel. We find out about life in a real windmill, just like Stumpy, grinding wheat into flour and making pasta and spaghetti. And how do you control the weeds in a real, fast flowing country river, keeping it healthy for Britains wildlife? EPISODES Little Red Tractor to the Rescue, A Visit to a Real Farm, The Day that Jeremy Came to Stay, The Day that Auntie Ellie Went for a Swim, Lambs on a Real Farm, The Day Stan s World Turned Upside Down, Wheat and Windmills, The Day of the Molehills and Windmills, A Real Farm, The Day of the Big Surprise, Puppies in Kennels, The Day Puppy Found His Name, Potatoes on a Real Farm, The Day Dudley Was Late, The Day Hetty Went to Wrigglesworth, Free-Range Hens, The Ghost of Whistling Bridge, On the River. 5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful. (Original Little Red Tractor). 26 Sep 2009
The 'original' Little Red Tractor. Not the one many of you may be used to. Don't compare the two, see this as something in its own right. To me, it's a delightful DVD, I'm so glad they've released it. I've got the Christmas one and was wondering if they would ever get around to releasing the other stories and I've not been disappointed. In fact, it has exceeded my expectations as it is even better than I thought it would be. Unlike the animated classics that we all know and love, this is rather more educational, whereas the more well-known versions are funnier and basically just entertainment. Also with this older version, the stories are interspersed with real footage of life on a real farm, which makes for some nice interludes, and also teaches as well as entertains, though without being at all preachy. It's just lovely to watch, and quite relaxing too.
The stories are illustrated by lovely watercolour paintings with occasional animated sequences thrown in for good measure to liven up the proceedings. (Similar to how the Ivor the Engine stories are presented).

This Stan looks totally different to the one from the familiar series of Little Red Tractor DVDs, that one looks more like Adam Henson from Countryfile, this one is older and much more 'countryish'. Stumpy looks more or less the same, but his wife is totally different, being much more modern looking, whereas the usual one in the animated stories is a lot older and more countrified.
Another big difference is in Mr Jones, here he is older and has a Welsh accent, whereas the 'usual' Mr Jones is much younger and speaks with a rather posh accent and I much prefer him to this version, but then after all, this is the original, probably how the author intended him to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much better than the modern cartoon 15 May 2013

So glad they have some episodes on DVD now. We had all the VHS tapes. My son loves this series. He is autistic and loves these DVD's. The content is very calm, the tractor does not have it's own personality, much more realistic, lovely gentle stories. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for all tractor fans 16 April 2013

Lovely stories, gentle messages, superb detail. In an age of flashing lights and special effects, this is refreshingly simple in its style and content. The 'real life' sections are great too: actual tractors working the fields, people interacting with nature. Would highly recommend.

My two and a half year old Absolutely LOVES the animated Little Red Tractor stories, but when i put this on he walks out of the room !! With the others he is totally transfixed .. and that from a wee boy who has NEVER been interested in anything on TV. So I can Wholeheartedly recommend the Stephen Tompkinson-voiced animated series, but alas, NOT THIS.. at least not yet. (I wasn't fussed on it either, and he always insists i watch with him.. so BE Warned :-) )
