Product Description

A beautiful new edition of this classic book reissued in the Godden centenary year

Book Description

When Gem moves into The House Next Door, Nona and Belinda think she’s stuck up and vow to have nothing to do with her. But the beautiful Japanese doll in her window soon attracts their attention. They name her Little Plum because her clothes are decorated with plum blossom – but unlike Nona’s Japanese dolls, Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, Little Plum seems unloved and uncared for. Will the three girls ever become friends?

I loved this book as a child - if you have read and enjoyed Miss Happiness and Miss Flower then you'll like this one too. It's based around the same family but from a different angle. So many of Rumer Godden's books are gems and this is too. My other favourite is In this House of Brede - but that's for adults.

Buy this book! 28 Oct 2011
By Mandy A
Format:Paperback
This was the first book I was allowed to choose from the school library as a reading book at primary school and the story has always stayed with me. When I saw it on Amazon I had to buy it. I am now waiting for Miss Happiness and Miss Flower eagerly. I have two grown up sons so am saving them in the hope of grand-daughters to read them to and pass them on to later!

My 2 girls enjoyed this, as they did Miss Happiness and Miss Flower. As the parent reading it, I felt it held a bit more interest for adults - difficult relations with the new household next door, and how they escalate and are eventually resolved, and the contrast between well off and extremely rich neighbours.
