Amazon.co.uk Review

Every now and again a picture book comes along that perfectly combines the charming, the sweet, the humorous and the witty with stunning, memorable illustrations and a story line that tickles the reader pink, no matter how young or old they are.

Little Pig Figwort is such a book. Little Pig Figwort just cannot get to sleep, no matter how hard he tries, and realises that part of the problem is that he really is a pig who would rather be having fun than sleeping. So he decides that he should have an adventure, and sets off into the night in search of good times. From the bottom of the ocean (where everyone is very sleepy indeed, and send him packing), to the North Pole (where even the polar bears are dozing) and then finally to the moon, "where the pigs fly high in the silver sky all night, because it's much too shiny and bright to sleep".

Beautiful illustrations (there can be few cuter pigs than Little Pig Figwort), and rhythmic, sing-song text make this stunning and rather special book a must, and ideal for reading together at bedtime. (Ages 3 and over)--Susan Harrison

Review

A high-spirited tale about a little pig who likes to have fun… The I-can’t-get-to-sleep picture books is a genre in children’s fiction… Branford’s humorous text and Munoz’s expressive pictures ensure that this one won’t send you to sleep while you are reading it.
The Guardian, March 2000

The pictures of Pig Figwort tossing, turning, wriggling and winking in an attempt to drop off are pure delight. The Independent

Product Description

Little Pig Figwort just cannot get to sleep, he tosses and turns, but it is just no good. Who can he find to play with in the middle of the night?

Little Pig Figwort dives to the bottom of the ocean but the mermaids are all asleep. He zooms off to the North Pole but the sleepy polar bears growl at him to go home. So Little Pig Figwort jumps into his space rocket and whizzes off to the moon where he discovers the moon pigs, who play games of Pig Pirates, Moon Jump and Hide and Seek all night long. After such an adventure Little Pig Figwort is at last ready for a good night’s sleep.

AGE 4-7

From the Back Cover

It's late at night. The stars are shining softly, but no matter how hard he tries, little Pig Figwort just cannot fall asleep. He tosses and he turns, he wriggles and he jiggles. Finally he realise, "I am a pig who likes to have fun!" So, pulling on his deep-sea diving suit, he squeezes into his submarine and dives to the bottom of the ocean. But the mermaids are trying to sleep… Who else can Pig Figwort find to play with in the middle of the night?

Award-winning author, Henrietta Branford treats the age-old theme of sleeplessness with brilliant wit and imagination in this, one of her last works. Irresistibly funny illustrations by Claudio Munoz, picture book illustrator and cartoonist, bring to life a little pig destined for great things.
