Product Description

Product Description

In this inventive pop-up, Joelle Jolivet and Jean-Luc Fromental's familiar penguins must count down from 10 to zero - one pop-up for each number. The book starts with 10 penguins on an icy shore. One by one, they disappear from the scene. Often the flaps and tabs embedded in the book facilitate the story and the reader can make the penguins appear and disappear themselves! A great counting book with winter-friendly, penguin-filled pop-ups.

It's a simple idea: start off with 10 penguins, and each page one of them disappears. There's a nice little rhyme, and tabs to pull/push so that the penguins vanish. The design and pictures are delightful.

The only thing is that on first reading some children do get slightly worried about where the penguins are all going - but they all pop up again at the end, so it turns out happily.

Really charming, much recommended.

This is one of my sons' favourite books. The pop ups are incredible, and have a lot of action. Its grand for learning to count to 10 forwards and backwards as well as simple subtraction. But it must be held a 90 degree angle or the pop ups stick and could be damaged. It is also likely to really upset some small children as the penguins appear to meet gruesome ends. In fact it all ends happily, but it did take some convincing with my 3 year old, so some parental caution is advised, and if a young child gets too upset - you might want to flip to the back of the book early.

We loved this book - I have already bought another by the same author and I do recommend it - but I woukld suggest that parents of young children read this themselves first.

Also - as many adults do collect pop up books now - if you know an adult collector - this book is unmissable.

It seems to be well made and hopefully will last with some diligence on the part of the adults in charge! It is an adorable book and holds the child's attention.

Who doesn't love Penguins? 18 Jan 2011
By Trisha S - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
When I first read it, it seemed a little macabre. Each penguin taken down in some seemingly dasterdly way. No remourse, it seemed like the last penguin did the crime. But when I first read it, I missed the last page. So before it was a fun book for me and now that I read the last page and all the missing do come back it's a fun book for your preschooler too. I love the original 365 Penguins and this is a nice addition. I think it would be great to share and anticipate alot of gigles and other exclamations. It is made well for a pop up books, the tabs are strong, looks like it can take alot of abuse.
