More About the Author

Adam Hargreaves was born in 1963 in Surrey, England. He is the son of Roger Hargreaves who created the Mr. Men and Little Miss series. Adam was the inspiration for the series when, at the age of eight, he asked his father 'What does a tickle look like?' In response, Roger drew a figure with a round orange body and long, rubbery arms and Mr. Tickle was born.
When Roger died suddenly in 1988, Adam Hargreaves took over as the author and illustrator of his father's popular Mr. Men series. Although he had been to art college, Adam saw art as a hobby until then and had never drawn the Mr. Men before. He admits that it took a few years to learn to draw them as his father drew in a very different style. His titles include Mr. Birthday and Little Miss Birthday, which were published in 2006 to celebrate 35 years of the Mr. Men, and a very successful range of sparkly Mr. Men titles which feature the Mr. Men and Little Misses with favourite fairytale characters.
In October 2006, Adam Hargreaves also created the first Little Miss character based on a real person when Little Miss Stella appeared in a limited edition of 1,000 books produced as invitations for Stella McCartney's Paris fashion show. When the rights to the Mr. Men characters were sold to the entertainment group Chorion in 2004, Adam joined the company as a creative consultant. When he is not working on the Mr. Men, he pursues his other ambition, which is oil painting.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition 26 Aug 2008

My son adores Mr Man and Little Miss books. The anniversary books are a very welcome addition to the collection. Written and illustrated by the author's son, they preserve the spirit, wit and even language of the older books, but with some funny twists and new storylines that keep the kids wondering. The "magic series" of stories involving dragons, knights, princesses, witches, mermaids and other magical creatures is a MUST for all fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid! 15 Dec 2011
A splendid book for my 7 year old who has learned to read in English this fall! The book is perfect in length, she has patience to read it all at once. Not too hard, not too easy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Moral of the story: AWFUL!! 28 Dec 2008
By Alissa J. Collins - Published on
As a fan of the Mr. and Little Miss books, I was overwhelmingly disappointed by this book. While most of the original book series all have good morals, dealing with negative behaviors... this book teaches a really negative concept.

Miss Splendid was the most splendid... until a Princess moves in next door. Expecting a lesson that might encourage my daughter to be less self-absorbed or perhaps one that focuses on the idea that being splendid should have more to do with what is inside - I was appalled when the end of the story had to do with Miss Splendid sabotaging the Princess until her carriage was broken, her beautiful crown melted and her lovely splendid robe had a hole in it... and the end was that NOW Miss Splendid was the most splendid again... the end.

What a extraordinarily BAD lesson to teach a child... that we should break others down to build ourselves up. I am throwing my copy away and would suggest that you NOT buy this book
