4.0 out of 5 stars NO ALICE!!! 13 Sep 2012
By Eleni TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Board book
This little baby book uses characters from "Alice in Wonderland" to help toddlers learn the colours. The text is very simple, for example "white rabbit" accompanied by the picture of a white rabbit or "green frog" accompanied by the picture of a green frog. The book is printed on thick cardboard paper which is very durable and although not waterproof, it seems really easy to clean.

I got this book for a friend's three year old daughter who is learning the colours. The little girl is familiar with the characters, as we already told her the Alice story in the form of a fairytale, after getting her the movie poster for her room. Clearly I didn't expect the text to be the original novel or even a simplified version, but I thought it would have some sort of plot, so I was somewhat disappointed by the very simple and uninspired text. Had we not told her the story in advance, I believe she would not find the book interesting and engaging.

Although the colourful pictures are great, in the book I got, the blue of the "blue caterpillar" is actually a very greenish turquoise, which can be confusing for the child.

Also, I was shocked by the fact that there is no picture of Alice in the entire book. For a little girl who is familiar with the story, not finding the heroine of the story is apparently quite devastating, and I cannot answer the toddler's insistent question "... but what happened to Alice?"

At the time this review is written, Amazon UK doesn't have the 'look inside' feature for this book, but in case you would like to look the book in detail before purchasing, the American Amazon does.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite in this series! 19 Dec 2012
By Sarah Durston TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ok, first off this is not a simplified children's version of Alice, but a wonderful book to teach colours to small children which has been inspired by the Alice in Wonderland story. The book has durable board pages, the art work is original and beautiful and a great contrast to much of the saccharine and sickly books available for children.

The pictures depicted are as follows:
White rabbit
Black shoes (Alice disappearing down the hole)
Purple bottle (The `Drink me' bottle)
Orange cat
Blue caterpillar
Brown hat (The Mad Hatter)
Pink flamingos
Red hearts
Green frog
And yellow teapot (with a curled up dormouse by the side of it!)

I have other books in this series but this is by far my favourite, something a little different !

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book but misleading. 27 Mar 2013

I thought this book was larger and for older kids. It's actually for babies. It just contains pictures with very simple meaning (the cat is big). It's nice but i had to give it to a smaller child.
