A must have soul album 21 April 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
There were two reasons why I bought this album, despite not having heard a single track from it. The first is that N'dambi was a backing singer for Erykah Badu, who I am a big fan of. The second was that the album received such great reviews on Amazon. I really have to say I have not been disappointed. She is definitely a breath of fresh air. There are certain tracks, such as "Deep", where the influence of Badu is apparent but at the same time this is an individual artist with her own style and a right to her own acclaim based on her own talents.

It is really hard to pick one of the songs out as a favourite, something I am usually always able to do (this just goes to show how good the album is as a whole). For pure soul "Deep" and "Soul From the Abyss" are both excellent. "What's Wrong with You" is also very good; a song about a relationship which is not how it should be, yet the track is slightly more up-tempo than others.

This album should not be missed. Hunt it down if you like real soul music. I looked for ages in music shops without success, thank god for Amazon. I've had this album for a couple of months now and would not part with it, it is rarely out of my CD player.

N'Dambi is brilliant, if you like to listen to wickedly soulful tunes then she is for you. She has a seriously soulful voice, with a jazzy edge when she's ready to belt out the vibes. N'Dambi started out as a backing singer for Erykah Badu, you can hear her distinct voice in some of Erykahs tracks, but she's definitely come into her own, and is equally on par now.

My favourites include "Deep", which IS deep, brilliant; "The Meeting",which has a very jazzy flavour to it and is a chillax tune! " Soul from the Abyss", which just gets right down to it. I don't think there is a bad song on this CD, its got the real deep slow tunes as well as up-tempo, a real nice mix. The more you hear it the more you love it and appreciate such great vocal skills. Definitely for people who love the likes of Angie Stone & Jill Scott. N'Dambi is up there with them, easily!

N'dambi has put together a well round and intresting produced album, which draws widely from soul jazz and hip hop, bring together a funky and unqiue debut album Check out tracks such as Deep and Lonely woman . N'dambi know for her background vocals with Erykah badu has showcased her deep and thoraty vocals on little girl lost brillant work of art worth having in you CD rack.
