There were two reasons why I bought this album, despite not having heard a single track from it. The first is that N'dambi was a backing singer for Erykah Badu, who I am a big fan of. The second was that the album received such great reviews on Amazon. I really have to say I have not been disappointed. She is definitely a breath of fresh air. There are certain tracks, such as "Deep", where the influence of Badu is apparent but at the same time this is an individual artist with her own style and a right to her own acclaim based on her own talents.
It is really hard to pick one of the songs out as a favourite, something I am usually always able to do (this just goes to show how good the album is as a whole). For pure soul "Deep" and "Soul From the Abyss" are both excellent. "What's Wrong with You" is also very good; a song about a relationship which is not how it should be, yet the track is slightly more up-tempo than others.
This album should not be missed. Hunt it down if you like real soul music. I looked for ages in music shops without success, thank god for Amazon. I've had this album for a couple of months now and would not part with it, it is rarely out of my CD player.
