About the Author

Evelyn Waugh was born in Hampstead in 1903, second son of Arthur Waugh, publisher and literary critic, and brother of Alec Waugh, the popular novelist. He was educated at Lancing and Hertford College, Oxford, where he read Modern History. In 1928 he published his first work, a life of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and his first novel, Decline and Fall, which was soon followed by Vile Bodies (1930), Black Mischief (1932), A Handful of Dust (1934) and Scoop (1938). Waugh travelled extensively and also wrote several travel books, as well as a biography of Edmund Campion and Ronald Knox.

After reading the autobiography I experienced a life relived. The author has proved himself as an autobiographer by putting the facts of his life in words.Remembering him in this centenary year I wish he would always be remembered as a great writer of british literature.

The copy sent is full of blank pages! Completely useless ! Please send me packaging etc to return. Ideally I'd like a quality assured replacement ASAP. Many thanks.

Every other page is missing - Can Amazon contact me to organize a replacement?! Very disappointing show considering... was going to buy the whole set - hopefully they'll not all be like this!

Masterful 31 May 2013
By Mark Nenadov - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is the first and only volume of an unfinished autobiography. It masterfully covers Waugh's youth, including his genealogy, parent's life, early upbringing, school boy days, days at Oxford, and his working life as a young adult. While it isn't a book I'd re-read, it was a pleasure to read and I'm glad I read it. On rare occasions, it got slightly tedious, but there were quite a few excellent nuggets to make up for that.

This book gives you an insight into the author's young life. It makes you realise how much of Brideshead Revisited was autobiographical. It was a good trot around upper class English life between the wars of the 20th century.
