Finally out on DVD in the UK, this season of Little House on the Prairie is a pleasure to have in my DVD collection! Yes, there are no special features and the picture quality isn't perfect, but I for one believe that the sound quality on this season is far better than in season 1 and 2! All in all I have no regrets in purchasing this item and look forward to rewatching these classic episodes many times.

Let's start with the positives: After a year or so in the wilderness, Universal finally start releasing more season sets of this series. The packaging has again been tweaked, but all episodes are present and in the correct order, unlike the season 3 USA release.

Once again picture quality is a big let down. For a show that was originally filmed on 35mm film, with a little restoration, should look excellent on DVD. So much location film and beautiful backdrops look washed out and pixilated, the DVD looks to have been sourced from the battered viewing prints the USA release used. Quite why Universal couldn't go back to the nagatives and source their transfers from them is beyond me. Most US shows from the 70's/80's were shot on inferior videotape. This wasn't one of them, though judging by the poor quality picture it may of well have been!

Sound is improved slightly over the previous releases, but extra features are once again non-existant.

Great stories, poor package!

I thought the box sets were absolutely brilliant. The story lines are classic and always a joy to watch. It is really good how watching these can take you back to your childhood, depending on when you were born that is, when little house on the prairie used to be on television. How things have changed through the years. there isn't really much more to say other than I would recommend buying these to anyone who has ever watched and enjoyed little house on the prairie before, also for anyone that enjoys good family fun and good stories, these are for you. thanks.
