I really love this - it's solidly built, weighs a ton and delivers the most amazing warm, deep embracing sound. It has a sort of vivid. involving quality, it's hard to explain really. You connect it to the 'rec out' of 'AV out' or whatever phono jacks on your amp - preferably with v.good connectors. Anyway, I have had a pair of AKG K702 headphones for years - these are meant to be the business but I was always disappointed by their weedy sound and narrow sound-stage. I was using my phones plugged into an Arcam A18 perfectly good amp but it just didn't deliver the power. However, this has all changed now and the Little Dot really brings them to life - absolutely amazing and a completely different sonic experience. You have to configure the headphone gain. To get into the box you remove the 4 screws on the bottom edge - this is easy - and then according to the impedance of your phones you just configure the relevant switches. I'm not an electronics man and at first wondered where the switches were. There's a helpful diagram in the manual and once you've found the right bit of the unit you have basically several sets of three upright metal pins. For switching to the left you put the little black jumper thing on the first two, for the right, the second two. Easy really and good fun. I found trial and error was best for setting the gain right, so you get plenty of volume and oomph. The Little Dot also takes three different types of valves - the world of valves is amazing and strange! I put Mullard EF92's in - available easily on well-known e-commerce site - on other users' recommendations and the sound is great. Seems there are loads of valves out there, unused old-stock, from years ago... I didn't check out the supplied Chinese origin ones, but sure they'd be fine.Read more ›

It’s a great value for money product. I found it as a huge improvement in comparison to headphone amp builds in Marantz cd5001.

I'm using this amp with AKG K-550 cans and sound is fantastic.
Standard Chinese tubes are quite good but soundstage is small and bass is bit flat. Nonetheless it’s a good starter. However there’s a lot of tube choice for this amplifier and they can be sourced very cheap if you look good enough.

I’ve replaced stock tubes with pair of old Soviet military tubes for peanuts price and sound just blew my mind. Matching pairs aren’t that important as you may think as long as they’re NOS.

To summarize, great little amp with loads of possibilities to upgrade, tube choice will make your head spin and it’s just a start, you can play with transistor op amp as well. I honestly recommend this product, especially if you’re audiophile on budget or just like quality music.

Great bit of kit - ideal for the tinkerer because it allows the valves and internal opamp to be changed. I bought it to drive a pair of AKG K702 headphones I bought a while back which need more power than my iPod can output. I had to change the internal links to increase the gain (the manual describes how to do this) and now I have my iPod playing back nicely. Good sound quality too. This headphone amp gets very good reviews elsewhere on the internet. I have also bought some different valves to try out soon!

I recently bought Sennheiser 650 headphones and quickly realised that a headphone amp was essential in order to use these to their full potential. Most amps appear to be made in (and shipped from) China. It proved very difficult to find an amp in my price range that wasn't going to take 10 weeks to arrive. I was attracted to the retro look of the Little Dot and to its very good reviews. I paid for next day delivery and the amp did indeed arrive next morning.
The Little Dot is a sturdy compact item, aesthetically pleasing; even more so once the unit is turned on and the valves are glowing gently accompanied by a small blue led 'power on' light. What it does for my headphones (I use Sennheiser 590s as well as the 650s) is quite amazing. The full dynamic spectrum is warmed by the Little Dot - you become completely enveloped by your listening source rather than simply hearing it. It's like the difference between listening to your musical performance from outside the auditorium doors and then to be transported to the front row seats. The output from small devices (portable DAB, mp3/USB player, tablet device, etc) is really brought to life.
It's early days yet but so far I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It's brought a whole new dimension to my headphone listening. Thoroughly recommended.

Simply superb headphone amp. I've teamed it with Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones and Mullard EF92 valves running from the line out of a Sonos Connect with a Spotify premium account. Still running the cans in but the sound is incredible already - rich, warm whilst making the inside of those cans sound like a stadium!

I listen to everything from heavy rock, through electronica, classical and opera to old and contemporary pop and indie; all sound just fantastic. I'm also using the standard Spotify quality; no need as far as I can see to uprate to the higher bit-rate.

Couple of points to note:

Whilst Little Dot may have provided valves in the past, none were supplied with my unit. Not a stress as I'd already got the EF92s from eBay (brilliant supplier based in Billingshurst, West Sussex) but bear this in mind if you're expecting to plug and play out of the box.

The other note is you need to interpolate the not-very-clear instructions to a certain extent in order to dismantle the chassis and find the right jumpers. Also, no jumpers are supplied so in some valve/headphone impedance setup scenarios, you will need to supply your own jumpers.

These are quibbles though and not enough to prevent me from rating 5 stars for this little (dot) beauty!
