I was at the same gig in Exeter Cavern as Gregg (supporting equally excellent Young Knives). They churn out decent melodic indie pop rock, with good harmonies from the singers. The production on this album seems to improve as the album goes on but I like a bit of rough round the edges.

Some of the lyrics are a bit sixth form poetry but overall I really liked it musically and they could go far!

hooks galore 24 Jan 2011
Format:Audio CD
If you like your guitars spiky, choppy and angular then this is the one for you as the cd is awash with them. They sound like a less polished (which is often preferable) Killers or Kaiser Chiefs or even britpop-era Blur. The vocals are occasionally ropey when stretched but actually blend well with the overall "rough" sound. The lyrics are not always fully realised but they certainly have a knack with catchy/infectious melodies and the experience as a whole is very refreshing.

Hoist the Jolly Roger 22 Jan 2009
Format:Audio CD
Wow - what a debut album. Great opening song (I'll Love) followed by an impressive range of others with pace, energy and strong lyrics. The catchy Mr Understanding is upstaged by the rousing finish of Bright Lights to leave you wanting more (only 4 stars because it is only 36 minutes long). Berks must be the place to be at the moment because the other debut album of the year is Twenty One by the Mystery Jets. Get both for the complete answer to those credit crunch blues.
