Product Description

Product Description

Alone in space, one little boy is a long way from home.

He is the sole survivor of a damaged Kesian spaceship. The Kes believe in the power of magic to navigate the stars and are in a bitter war against a rival civilization who use the power of Artificial Intelligence to guide their ships.

Paddy Smith is the captain of the AI vessel that finds the boy's damaged spaceship. He and his crew rescue the strange silent boy, but he seems unable or unwilling to communicate with them. Little do they know that the boy has his own plans for their ship.

Little Boy Found is a science fiction short story and includes a bonus short story: The Human Factor.

More About the Author

I am a UK based writer, living in the southeast of England. I mostly write historical fiction and fantasy, although I also have been known to write a bit of Science Fiction now and again.

My favourite authors include Gene Wolfe, Ursula le Guin and Iain Banks, and I'm currently getting into Dan Simmons and Neal Stephenson. Outside SF&F I enjoy the thrillers of Robert Harris and I love Tolstoy's War and Peace.

I am also the Editor of Alt Hist, the new magazine of Historical Fiction and Alternate History.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the bother 26 Jun 2012

Poorly written - very amateurish in fact - and frankly boring. You could see the ending coming a mile away.
Definitely not worth paying for (thankfully, I got it when it was free). It certainly doesn't make me inclined to check out any of the author's other works. Very disappointing.

Its okay. some good scifi but finished just as it got started without the twist that you expect from a short.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting idea 25 Jun 2012

NOTE : I AM CHANGING MY STAR RATING TO ADD A STAR. WHEN I DID THIS REVIEW, THE AUTHOR NOTED HE WOULD RE EDIT THE WORK AND TAKE CARE OF PUNCTUATION ISSUES. HE FORWARDED A COPY OF CORRECTED VERSION TO ME PER MY REQUEST. HE DID NOT ASK ME TO ALTER MY REVIEW COMMENTS OR STAR RATING. I HAVE REREAD THIS WORK. FOR THE MOST PART, THE TEXT IS ERROR FREE OF ISSUES I NOTED RELATED TO ERRORS. THUS, I AM AWARDING THE STAR TAKEN OFF WHEN ORIGINAL REVIEW WRITTEN.

This is a short story with an interesting premise. I found myself quite drawn in by the tale and the mind of the creator. This is about wormholes, space, artificial intelligence and hints at space wars (past or potential) .

My issue lies in the poor editing. I have a hard time encountering so many errors in such a short work.

I never recommend shorts (unless one can pick them up free) - but I would definitely recommend readers take a chance on a longer work from this author. I plan to check out something if there are longer works myself.

Lost a star for errors in punctuation that got pretty numerous after the 30% mark.

A very good short story. I am really hoping that this becomes a novel. You just get to know the characters and the story ends. lol I wasn't sure if I should feel sorry for the little boy or be afraid of him. Very afraid. Worth the little time it takes to read it. :)
