Product Description

Product Description

Written by the world's leading expert on Gibran, this profound little book will be an essential addition to any reader's Gibran collection, and a perfect Christmas and Valentine's Day alternative for those tired with collections of cliched romantic verse. Regarding it as the raison d'etre of the universe, Kahlil Gibran was never more insightful than when he wrote about love. Now for the first time, and illustrated with the poet's own paintings, his reflections on love and friendship have been gathered together in one volume, capturing the essence of love in all its forms and moods.

About the Author

Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931) was one of the twentieth century's most inspirational poets and authors. Influenced by Blake, Nietsche, and the King James Bible, and best-known for his masterpiece, The Prophet his books have sold more than ten million copies in English alone. Suheil Bushrui is internationally recognized as the foremost authority on Kahlil Gibran, and has widely published on him in Arabic and in English, including the leading biography, Kahlil Gibran: Man and Poet (Oneworld).

I bought this book for myself, after having read 'The Prophet' and absolutely loving it. It has a wealth of small, thought-provoking, and yet very simple verses, that have an intense ability to speak directly to any reader. They cover so much of the human experience, and I found myself both chuckling, and crying with sorrow at some of the words on the page, as they reflected so beautifully, and accurately my own experiences of life and love so far. I would highly recommend this lovely little book to anyone, who is either looking for comfort, affirmation, or inspiration for themselves, or as a beautiful and thoughtful gift for others. It would be appreciated by anyone who enjoys the pleasure of reading soulful and beautifully written words....it's an absolute gem.

Very little with a big message 18 Dec 2007
By Doxie Lover - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a wonderful little book that I purchased for a good friend. I didn't realize that it truly is a "little" book as the size is about the size of the palm of my hand but it had some wonderful excerpts from Gibran.
After seeing the one I got for my friend I want to purchase one for my own collection.

A Collection of Thoughts about Love 30 May 2009
By Rebecca Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
If you are new to Kahlil Gibran then I'd recommend you start with The Prophet. I also think you will understand Kahlil Gibran even better if you read his letters in Love Letters: The Love Letters of Kahlil Gibran to May Ziadah. He shows his heart in both books and then you will be ready to understand more of what he reveals in "The Little Book of Love."

This is a collection of quotes and prose poems from his many books. This is the third book I've read and I was not disappointed. In fact it made me all the more eager to read additional books. Once you read one book you will want to read them all. In each book Kahlil Gibran says things that are simply profound and meaningful to understanding any topic he has addressed. In this book he speaks of the love of God, country, family and friends. He also briefly touches on romantic love.

All of the quotes in this book are filled with poetic beauty. I especially enjoyed his thoughts on how the soul is not content because it desires perfection. That made me think of my life a little differently than before. I think the only thing I disagreed with is his thoughts about how love doesn't come from a long companionship. I think there is definitely room for a love to grow between two people over time.

After reading these quotes I now have numerous books on my must-read list. I think after you experience this book you will feel the same.

Quintessential Gibran, made portable 24 Aug 2009
By Busy Executive - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've been a Gibran fan all my life, although as I've aged, I've come to see his works in a different way. In my younger days, it was about the beauty of the words, the phrasing, the structure...now, it's about the meaning and how it relates to the experiences of my life. Gibran is like that.

I find this particular book a good collection of Gibran's most famous Love poems, although as another reviewer suggested, it is brief and a bit narrowly focused on some of his most romantic works.

If this is to be your only Gibran, I would never recommend it...you will miss out on too much. Instead, start with The Prophet, then wind your way through Sand and Foam, Broken Wings and a few others. Think of them (or one of the collected writings) as the prerequisites that will give you the perspective to understand and appreciate this lovely book.
