More About the Author

Jackie White graduated in German from the University of Exeter in 1983. This was the start of a twenty-seven year journey that was to end with the writing of a book on one of the most controversial hard rock bands to emerge from Germany in the 1990s: Rammstein.

Jackie had a successful stint in the Royal Air Force that included interpreting for NATO, before working as a Training Consultant in the motor industry. She's now Chief Exec of CPC Venues in London EC1. In recent years she found that she was using her German less and less, yet longed for a project to keep involved with the language.

An unlikely viewing of her teenage son's MTV chart list included the band Rammstein that sang in German, had sold millions of albums around the world, yet no-one in the UK had ever heard of. Their English speaking fans were relying on poor literal translations of lyrics to understand what the songs meant. Jackie explains, "I found Lindemann's lyrics interesting, and wanted to share their original rhyme with a wider audience. I wrote a book that explained about German history & language and translated key songs, so fans would not miss out."

I first listened to Rammstein when I moved to the UK, in 1995 a friend of mine had the Album Herzeleid and although i did not understand what they were saying I really enjoyed Jamming out to it. How great that now I can enjoy their music and understand what they are actually saying!! Rock On Dudes!!!This book is a must for those who love Rammstein the Band or those who may want to learn German in a Rocking Way!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Black Rammbook 7 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
My sister (the author) introduced me to Rammstein back in Dec 2010 as she was in NYC and she took me to their concert at MSG. I was a Rammstein virgin and I've grown to love them. This book helps tremendously as I don't speak or understand a word of German and it helps me to understand their music and the passion they feel through it. Their music is great and very catchy and having this Little Ramm Book is a God send! I recommend it to fans as you'll have a much better perspective of where they're coming from if you don't understand German.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for any Rammstein fan 29 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Despite having done A Level German (plus 3 further years) and therefore being able to get the gist of most Rammstein songs, I still found this book excellent. The deeper meanings and "plays on words" that they use are not obvious, plus an introduction to the background of East German culture gave better insight into the recurring themes. My partner knows no German apart from some Rammstein song titles (if he ever gets in trouble he has to remember Hilf Mir) and I am trying to get him to read the book now. The slight changes required to make the lines span and rhyme are totally acceptable, and this was a task that I could not even contemplate. Well done Jackie White!

5.0 out of 5 stars Opening Up The World of Rammstein! 25 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been a massive Rammstein fan for many years and love the music and the guys. It never bothered me what they were really singing about as the music is fantastic and Till's voice so powerful. However curiosity won and I started looking online for translations. I then somehow stumbled upon this book when looking for more Rammstein goodies. Bought it and all I can say is its FANTASTIC! If you love Rammstein but don't understand German get this book!! It will open your eyes to what Till is singing and its written in English so that it can be easily sung along to and makes sense! Please, please translate Till Lindemann's book of poetry!
