I was a little disappointed at first that it didn't automatically entertain him, but once he got to around 7 weeks or so he really started interacting with things, so I think I was just putting him on it before he could get much out of it. We're very happy with the quality of the product, though; it was well thought out with lots of different materials and textures (and stuffing materials; many sections make noise when touched). There are also lots of little bits to interact with, like the open out plastic mirror that will give the mat some longevity as he grows and learns new ways to interact with his environment.
One big help was that we hung lots of additional toys from the frame (purchased separately; see Rainbow Designs Very Hungry Caterpillar Developmental Toy and Tiny Love - Fruity Pals Anna Banana); he could then reach more and was more engaged as everything he did had some effect; yesterday he spent an hour and a half uninterupted, just entertaining himself.
He's not really playing on his stomach yet, but the detachable pillow has proved useful as a prop for breastfeeding!

I'm disappointed with this baby gym, especially as it's one of the more expensive ones on the market. My first child had the Disney Activity Baby Gym (currently only £26.99 on Amazon but we paid more than £40 three years ago) and we were really happy with it. We thought we should get a different one for our second child, however, as we still had some of the Disney dangling toys, even though we'd chucked out the mat. So, we chose this one because it looked colourful with lots of interesting things on it and had good reviews. But it's not that great. The danglers are almost all the same sort of thing and there's far too much crinkly Tesco-carrier bag type noises, but no bells or squeakers at all. It serves a purpose and baby is happy lying on it and we've added our own different danglers, but I think the design could easily be improved.
We purchased this playmat late on Thursday afternoon and received it the very next morning :) this is simply the best service we have ever received from online shopping. The playmat is nothing short of excellent, really well made with high quality toys. The bright colours are wonderful and this product will provide years of enjoyment. After extensive research on 'playmats' we are thrilled to have chosen this one. We totally recommend this to parents AND babies :)
