Amazon Review

When Little Bear wakes up in the morning and finds his trousers missing, he asks his friends if they have seen them. It appears that all his friends have seen them and used them for various purposes before passing them on to someone else. No- one, it seems, has recognized them for what they really are. Children will delight in the ingenious uses the toys have for the trousers and Little Bear's growing frustration as he finds his trousers being used for all sorts of unsuitable activities. Fortunately, all is resolved satisfactorily as the trousers' final use was in the making of a delicious cake. This is a delightful and amusing book for sharing with young children. --Philippa Reece --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

by the excellent author/illustrator, Ms Jane Hissey.
This review refers to the RED FOX paperback/1987.

What a dilemma - this story is all about poor 'Little Bear' who has lost his trademark red trousers! Oh dear!

From the back cover:-

'Old Bear and his friends make story time special!

Little Bear has lost his trousers! He sets off in search of them and discovers that everyone knows where they were, but no one seems to know where they are now.....'

32 high quality shiny pages, with good sized text and wonderfully illustrated throughout.

Example of text:-

'The sun shone through the window and woke Little Bear.
"What a lovely morning," he said to himself. "I'll do something different today."
He jumped down from the bed, took off his pyjamas and looked for his trousers. He looked on the chair where he'd left them and he looked on the floor under the chair - and then he looked through the chest of drawers in case they were in there. But they weren't. They were nowhere.
"But they must be somewhere," said Little Bear.
"Trousers don't disappear. I'll go and ask Old Bear. He'll know where they are."......'

And off Little Bear goes to see Old Bear........he hasn't seen the missing trousers, but has an idea who might.....and so.....
Little Bear sets out on a tour of the various toys to find his trousers, which, as it turns out, have been used for a multitude of purposes...except for what they were intended!
Towards the end, Little Bear gets quite agitated but all is well that ends well...as always and he comes up with a very good idea, too!

The 'Old Bear' series of books are all based on the harmless and captivating 'toys-coming-to-life' theme.

Fabulous bedtime story for younger children and for the slightly older child, to read along with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 16 Jan 2005

This is such a wonderful book, I could read it over and over again! And I'm 29! I love the way the author writes - it shows sentimentality as you feel for poor Little Bear, but it is so funny too. Of course my 3 year old boy loves it too. A must for all ages.

This is a precious story which my now late teenagers loved to hear read to them. I am trying to buy a new copy now for my 3 year old, and I can't seem to find a new one! Such a shame if its out of print! :(

5.0 out of 5 stars GET THIS BOOK! 24 Jun 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book is a must-have for all parents of young children. I know it will become a family favorite in your family as it has in mine. It is one of the few picture books I have kept on my shelf (I'm 14 now)because of how special it is; I could never give it up. I don't think anyone would be able to say anything bad about this book. It has amazing illustrations. They are super cute, colorful, and life-like. The story is about a teddy bear who awakens to find that his trousers have been misplaced. He goes around all day asking his friends if they have seen them. They all say the same thing- they were using them (for some very unique purposes) but when they were finished with them they let someone else use them. Finaly Little Bear catches up with his pants and it's worth the wait. If you decide to purchase this book pick up a couple more of Jane Hissey's Old Bear stories, you won't be dissapionted in any of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Bear's Trousers is a visual delight and very sweet 15 July 1999
By Gay A. Koenemann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Our (hard copy) of, Little Bear's Trousers, has been read dozens of times! The illustrations are extraordinary, and the creative uses Little Bear's friends make of his trousers are inventive and practical! The story has a joyful ending wherein all the friends can celebrate not only the return of Little Bear's trousers but some time together enjoying a bit of cake. The ONLY complaint I would make about this book (and which was actually pointed out to me by my six 1/2 year old daughter) is that of the nine characters, only two are female. We, however, have rectified this situation by granting them a new sexual status virtually everytime we read this book. Both of my kids (one boy, one girl) adore this book and have for years. Highly recommeded!
3.0 out of 5 stars not the size I expected 18 Sep 2013

I bought this book for my wife's Pre-K class. It was way to small for her to read it to her students. I wish we could have known the size of the book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story 5 April 2010
By Terri A. Ward - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Jane hissey has a great way of bringing humor and feeling into this book. I found myself laughing more than once. Today, in this throw-away world, it was fun and refreshing to see that one pair of trousers could be used for so many things! This could lead to some great discussions of reusing things at home. The illustrations are soft and beautiful. Very nice book! Terri "Hunter" Ward, author of One Starry Night and Aunt Tami's Strawberry Farm.
