A literature anthology for Freshman Composition, Introduction to Literature or World Literature courses.

Designed to encourage students to read, write, and think critically and globally, this comprehensive collection of contemporary writing spotlights English as an international literary language. The broad range of texts from some of the world's finest writers addresses the global development of literature in English and creates an appreciation for the diversity of an enlarged canon of literature.

From the Back Cover

THIS COLLECTION OF STORIES, POEMS, MEMOIRS AND ESSAYS from around the world—all in original, though diversified, English—invites students to broaden their literary as well s their cultural horizons with texts that provide exposure beyond United States and British Literatures.

LITERATURE WITHOUT BORDERS engages students to read critically and sensitively. Besides motivating them to "read between the lines," it encourages them, as well, to "read against the grain," in lively and creative ways.

I was looking for a textbook to use for a Literature class. This book fit the bill and my budget perfectly. I appreciated the prompt response in shipping the book to me. It was an enjoyable experience and I will keep this in mind for my next purchases as well. I was very nervous making an online purchase, but this one was comfortable and easy. Thanks for everything.
A Neat Little Anthology 7 Dec 2011

"Literature Without Borders" is a good book for individuals interested in using multicultural writings as a gateway into the edification of variegated ethnicities from around the world. There were some wonderful short stories about Native American behaviors ("Yellow Woman") and poems about the Black experience ("For My People") that highlight the plights of people from unfamiliar groups. There are plenty of narratives from African countries that focus on the civil turmoil ("Waiting for a Turn") and international greed ("Africa Kills Her Sun") that is ravaging the continent. Topics range from the view of homosexuality in Communist China ("The Bridegroom") to racism in Canada ("The Loons") and the Pacific ("White Fantasy-Black Fact") exposes that, irrespective to land mass and distances, we all struggle with the same issues. The only two setbacks: the incomplete, if not misleading, mini-autobiographies that does a great disservice to the featured authors and the lack of attention to the Latin culture (there were a handful of Hispanic literary contributions).

This book was assigned for my class about themes in world literature. We had some amazing class discussions and the stories were very eye opening and thought provoking. This is one of the few books I have kept after finishing a class.
