Product Description

Product Description

Beginning with the pre-Islamic period and continuing to recent historical times, this volume covers the whole of the Arab world, including the Arab empires in Europe.

Book Description

For sixty years, the best account in English of this vast output has been, by universal consent, this book; its supremacy will long remain unchallenged. That it is a book full of erudition and high critical judgement goes without saying; its author is also a poet-translator of rare excellence. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for students of History of Arabic Language, 2 July 2010
By sheepoo - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Literary History of the Arabs (Paperback)
An amazing discourse on the history and development of the Arabic language, starting from its emergence in historical times to the middle of the 20th Century. The author provides lucid and very readable details of the people and personalities involved in the development of the Language, all the while providing the cultural and historical background involved therein.

Highly recommended to anyone who wants to understand how the language of the desert came around to be the language of the Civilized World at its time.
