I bought this to use with an Asus EEE running Windows XP.

I plugged it in and it immediately played an audio cd no problem.

I tried my first DVD and it wouldn't play, I got a Windows error. I installed PowerDvd and the initial dvd still wouldn't play but it was a cheapo thrown in free with an audio cd. I tried a proper DVD (Matilda actually) and it played fine via the Windows player. Suspect the PowerDVD install has the extra plugins that XP need to play DVDs but all the same that's software and not related to this product.

The DVD-rom works and is very good looking. Matches the Netbook perfectly. I like the flip up lid better than a slide out draw. I suspect it will take rougher handling. The usb cable is only about 2 inches long which seems a bit short! But it's a standard fitment and I have a number of them lying around the house, so again no stress.

Having read a lot of reviews around different external cd/dvd readers for netbooks, I was half expecting this not to be compatible and have to send it back. I am pleasantly surprised. It looks good and works fine.

Having recently bought a small laptop running Vista, I wanted to upgrade to Windows7 but my new laptop had no DVD player. I tried to run the setup disk from my old computer with no joy, so decided to buy this DVD player. Best thing I ever did. It's small, light and has its own fairly short USB connector hidden in the base. It worked instantly with no set-up to do. I now have Windows7 running perfectly and have found the unit itself to be great for playing DVD's and at only 240gms a very lightweight addition.

I bought a small white HP netbook just before Christmas so needed a DVD writer to play DVDs/CDs especially for downloading CDs onto my iPod.
This product matches perfectly with it and it's very light and although the USB connection is a little short it has a space underneath to store the USB connection when not in use/travelling.
I've used it to download 100s of CDs onto my iPod and it has been great.
When I first connected it to my netbook, I was able to start using it within minutes so very easy and quick.
It does exactly what I expected it to do and I'm very happy with the purchase and speed of delivery from Amazon: I chose delivery within 5-7 working days but it arrived sooner :)

This does everything except write DVDs though it reads them. It is glossy black, lovely square design with rounded edges and light. It has a flip top cover unlike most these days which have a button to press and bring out the tray. I think a flip top opening has less chance of disks getting jammed. The speeds for CDs and DVDs are standard. If you don't use DVD writing this is all that you need.

Well i will start by saying i just cant find any problems with this Liteon ETDU108-02 8X
the cd drive on my laptop failed to work so i went shopping for a replacement,
or substitute i discovered this and boy oh boy am i happy i bought it.
it arrived today 27/4/2011 ordered 22/4/2011. earlier than expected well done Amazon
i first tested it by inserting a disc to instaul my printer and yes it worked, second test i inserted a DVD my friend sent me from the usa witch does not play on my home dvd due to american format and yes it plays just great, ok i thought let me try a dvd i recorded on my dvd player from the tele and yes this also played, it set up easy as chips.
As regards people saying usb cable a bit short well it is designed for use while on the move i.e. for use on a train
as regards noise it is quieter than my built in dvd was
Never the less i am truely satisfied with this product and would recomend it to anyone

Worth the money, easy to use and very handy. It also works with Windows 7 and cable tucks away underneath the product. Very pleased.

I purchased this external DVD drive specifically to use with my netbook (which by definition has no DVD drive, on holiday. It has proved a useful gadget, enabling me to use my (rather ancient) Microsoft Autoroute software to plan routes while we were away.

As I have a chronic illness, I have also found it to be useful for listening to CDs and watching DVDs on the netbook when I am too unwell to get up. It was necessary to download software from the Internet in order to watch DVDs, but VLC Media Player is available as Freeware, and downloaded to the Windows 7 netbook with no problems, so that was easily sorted.

I would say this is very good value for the money, and I would recommend it to anyone else in a similar situation to myself. I noticed that some reviews said it was noisy, but I have not found this to be a problem.

Besides my std laptop, complete with DVD/CD drive, I am using an Acer Aspire One netbook ( with no drive unit)for the ease carrying home and away.

The Liteon Ext. drive is a perfect compact companion for adding software or seeing DVD's or listening to CD's.

Easy to use and easily pocketable if reqired. MOST SATISFIED. At a good price too.
