Important Information

Safety Information:
If you have a history of eye disease including, but not limited to, macular degeneration, have undergone laser corrective eye surgery in the past 30 days, or if you are currently taking any medications including certain antibiotics which render you photosensitive (extremely sensitive to light), consult with your ophthalmologist or health care provider before using product. Consult a medical professional before using this product if you have been diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder, depression, Bipolar Disorder, mood or sleep disorders or if you are taking medication for the treatment of depression and/or mood disorders (including but not limited to: fluoxetine (Prozac®), fluvoxamine (Luvox®), paroxetine (Paxil®), sertraline (Zoloft®), venlafaxine (Effexor®), nefazodone (Serzone®), Wellbutrin® and Zyban®). Light therapy may change the effect of these types of medications. Occasionally mild side-effects may occur which usually resolve after a few days of use, including headaches or a 'stinging' sensation in the eyes. If these or any other adverse effects not listed do not resolve after three days, discontinue use of The Litebook® EliteTM and consult your health care provider. On very rare occasions and usually only with over-use, less than 1% of users may experience mania (periods of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive or irritated mood). If this occurs, discontinue using The Litebook Elite immediately.

Indications:
Seasonal Affective Disorder Jet Lag Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome

Directions:
Typical usage time is 15-30 minutes a day. Regular daily usage is recommended. Optimally, The Litebook® EliteTM should be used first thing in the morning, as early as possible upon awakening. For some people, especially seniors, who fall asleep earlier than they'd like and wake up either too often or too early, we recommend using your Litebook Elite in the early evening to tell your body that you're not ready to go to sleep. This will help you sleep through the night and awaken at your preferred time. The Litebook® EliteTM should be positioned approximately 12-24 inches (30-60 cm) from your face, and should be offset slightly from center to reduce glare (SEE DIAGRAM) The Litebook® Elite's light beam must be directed at your eyes, and your eyes must be open to achieve benefit. Typically, you will recognize when you've received sufficient light - most often by feeling of heightened alertness, energy, and/or mood. Refer to the diagram for proper positioning of The Litebook® EliteTM.

I'm not convinced by this product.

I've had nothing with problems with my one, especially with the battery.

If you leave it for a while it goes in a battery protection mode which means that it won't charge. This happens all the time (I'd guess every year because it's not going to be used during the summer). When it locks out like this all you to do is to press down and hold the re-set button, or when that doesn't work (and this is from the company's web-site) you disassemble the machine, unplug the battery from the circuit board for five minutes, re-plug it, reasseble the machine and then when it reboots in 'demo'mode you press and hold the on/off button and it should start charging again... or if that doesn't work... well then you get a new one.

All this is fine - but you have to remember that this is a light. A light that you turn on and then you turn off, and then back on again (and so on). I have a torch that uses this basic binary on/off function and it seems to work pretty well without requiring a reset button or being booted from demo mode - maybe I should send it to the manufacturers of the Litebox as an example ohow they should re-design their product using a radical "on/off er that's it" design.

As it stands it appears that my Litebook is sadly of no further use - I must have used it perhaps 20 times - so that's £7 per go - which is the cost of 2 pints of beer, a trip to the cinema, an album of music tracks from Amazon or a couple of tubs of choclate ice cream - each of which would have probably cheered me up than this product!

The Litebook is very well made, comes complete with a nifty plug that can be adapted for various regions + a small travel pouch. Its not heavy so I happily pop it in my bag to take to/from work, and its reassuringly robust, with the cover doubling up as a stand - I have faith in the claims that this is a product for life. It only took a few hours to charge and the light emitted is indeed extremely bright but hasn't caused me any of the ill effects others have described. So as a bright light that's portable, it rates as 5 stars. I've considered light therapy for SAD for several years, but this is the first time I decided to take the plunge and buy a light. I've been using it for 15 minutes twice a day for several weeks but can't - in all honesty - claim my mood or energy levels or sleep are noticeably improved. Perhaps its just too early to tell - the extra light is nice though and I'm prepared to keep using it throughout the winter.

I brought this last winter after quite a bit of research (sad.org.uk list models that they endorse/recommend and this is one of them). I personally would read their site and check out their recommended models first. I looked at their site before checking the models they suggested on Amazon. This one appealed as it is portable - it comes in a nice little case with an adaptor. It also has a flip over cover which doubles up as a stand when it is open.

The million dollar question - does it work? Personally I think it does but you have to get into a routine and stick to it. I know that I suffer With SAD but that has taken a long time to confirm. Using this in the morning for half an hour does keep me in check. I am very happy with this particular model - it's well designed and I have not had any problems with it.
