Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

With the introduction of AllWrite Technology form LITEON IT, the long-awaited dream to record on all recordable optical discs (DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW discs) becomes reality. There is no more confusion about which DVD format to choose. DVD recording has never been so easy.

Another key differentiator is the DV-Link (IEEE1394) port, which allows you to connect the LVW-5002B to a DV camcorder. By connecting the camcorder directly to the LVW-5002B, you can preserve high-quality digital images on a permanent basis. So you won't miss any of those treasured moments in you digital life. An added benefit is that you can even control your DV camcorder by using the remote control included!

The unique Easy Guider Menu navigates you through the process of basic functions, like record and playback, on a step-by-step basis. This graphic-based Easy Guider provides error-free recording and is suitable for users of all ages. You can follow the below icons to start your recording.

Another feature worth mentioning is the huge storage capacity for scheduled recording. A blank DVD provides up to 4.7GB in storage capacity, seven times more than a CD, and provides up to six hours of recording time.

VideoPLUS+ is the most popular instant recording system on the planet. This system has made video recording an easy, one-step process. It allows you to record TV programs with the PlusCode number for the show you want to record. You just look up the PlusCode number in your TV listings and enter it with your remote control into your DVD-Recorder, and the date, start time, stop time and channel settings are made automatically.

    4.0 out of 5 stars LiteOn LVW-5002, 6 Sep 2005
By R. A. Shacklock (Onchan, Isle of Man United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
This was my first DVD recorder and I had my doubts. Low price and a name I'd never heard of, but I was reluctant to buy a more advanced HD machine until the market (hopefully) settles down a bit. Connecting it was much the same as a VCR. Setup was more of a learning curve but achieved OK with the help of the instruction book. It comes with a list of recomended disc makes and of course the ones I'd ordered from Amazon were not on the list. I had problems with the machine failing to read them after recording. Bought some Memorex discs on the list and they work fine and also play back on my computer DVD player. Quality is much better than video tape. There is plenty of connectivity and I've recorded easily from my VCR as well as TV and satellite. The disc problem might have been solved by a firmware update but currently the download is not available on the website. LiteOn assure me they are on the case. There was no warrany card or UK service address with the machine (there is a Netherlands phone number and email address). You can return it to Amazon within 30 days if you are unhappy. At the price, if it works OK when you get it then I'd say it is worth the gamble. My VCR has been retired but not disposed of!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good simple introduction to DVD recording at home, 29 Jan 2006
I had searched all the usual sources and was becoming a bit skeptical about the 'cheaper' end of the range of DVD recorders. I finally decided on the LiteOn 5002 and having used it for about three days I am already making timed recordings without a problem. The instructions are simple and the procedures are easy. There is even an on-screen 'idiots guide' which can be followed to play, record, erase RW discs and finalise for playing on other machines. I still have one or two gaps in my knowledge but I am delighted with the machine, especially at this price! I have had none of the problems of high pitched noise mentionede elsewhere. The motor is not completely silent but the sound of it is not obtrusive in any way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dip your toe into the waters., 6 Sep 2005
    By A Customer
I bought this replace an terrible Goodmans DVD recorder that kept locking up. Out of the box this machine recorded very well, far better than my VHS. However be warned that the six-hour recording mode is absolutely awful, though the four-hour is acceptable. I am not what you would call a video/hi-fi buff so this is an entirely subjective view.

I would reccommend this machine as a good VCR replacement or for those who want to give DVD recording a try. I have had the machine for three weeks or so and it has performed very reliably and the timed recordings work well. However as it takes a minute or so to spin up before recording its worth setting your timer to come on a little early to avoid missing the start of a program.

Good points are: ease of day to day use, quality of recordings, upgradable firmware and multi-region hack. Also sound quality I found very good compared to my old DVD player.

Bad points: TV tuner seems rather poor, not a big problem as I record via a Scart/freeview box. The initial setup is a pain and not intuative. Also it is a bit noisy at times when recording, though at other times it's ok.

For the price this unit is well worth a look.
