Of the tribe books, this compilation is probably my favourite, with vol 2 coming a close second. The Red Talon section is actually useful for any Lupus characters, as it provides an insight into the ways Lupus characters think and feel. Many players play Lupus as either humans with four legs or well trained dogs, neither of which is appropriate.
The Shadow lord book explains the goals and values of the tribe. I could never understand how the other tribes could stand the Shadowlords, but this book reveals all. Shadowlords aren't really as malevolant as most people believe - they simply respect power and strength. If a leader has the power to maintain his position and rules well, they will serve him loyally. If, however, he is weak or ineffective, then he has to be brought down. And, of course, the shadowlords will be sure to 'test' the leader every now and again...
The silent striders book, is probably the weakest of the three, but still a great help for players. Most of the book is concerned with their history, with a bit on their society, what little of it exists. Of greatest use here is probably the gifts, especially the one that leads a silent strider straight for the nearest hornets nest to stick his nose into...
This compliation is great for players, and provides a ST with help for portraying NPCs, but they don't provide many story ideas or useful characters (the famous characters section isn't really helpful). Still, that isn't really what its for, so I say it still gets the 5 stars (don't complain that a hammer doesn't make a good axe...).
