Although she's only been in WWE for just over 4 years, Lita still has quite a tale to tell, as is evident with this book. Unlike most wrestlers, Lita was not a wrestling fan growing up, but once she became interested in the business, she was determined to to do whatever it took to reach her goal of becoming a professional wrestler.
"A Less Travelled Road" ("The Reality Of Amy Dumas") is Lita's own personal account of her rise to the top of the wrestling business, and the many trials and tribulations she experienced along the way. In the "Forward" Chapter, her boyfriend Matt Hardy describes how there isn't a whole lot of difference between Amy Dumas and Lita, and this is a very true statement.
In her early childhood chapters, Lita explains how she was somewhat of an outcast. Due to the nature of her father's work, she moved from one place to the next, never managing to sustain any real friendships.
However, when Lita discovered punk rock music, she "found" herself and began to mix with a crowd (albeit an "alternative" one). During these early chapters, Lita gives some very detailed descriptions of the punk rock scene and explains why she became attracted to this type of music.
Lita's discovery of sports entertainment came by chance one day, when her boyfriend at that time happended to be watching WCW Nitro. Lita wasn't interested, until she saw masked luchador wrestlers such as Rey Mysterio showing off their incredible talents. Lita knew immediately that wrestling was her new career choice.
Lita describes her wrestling training in Mexico City in great detail, before explaining what it was really like to work for ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling).

As soon as I saw Lita on WWF (I was 15 years old at the time) I knew I was seeing something fresh and exciting. Lita was just so effortlessly cool and natural - nothing like most of the other female wrestlers who I felt were forced into being Barbie doll types. Lita is exactly the type of female wrestler I would have wanted to be...that is if I had even an ounce of athletic ability, which I just don't! I'll never forget watching those incredible moonsaults and hurricanranas and being blown away by her skills. Lita really showed that female wrestlers can be athletic, exciting, tough and sexy AND appeal to both male and female fans. As well as her fabulous partnership with the Hardy Boyz in Team Extreme, I also enjoyed watching her get involved in matches with the 'big boys' such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock and Triple H.

I was pleasantly surprised then to find that Lita's biography is actually a really, really good read. The co-writer did a great job in making the book flow and sound true to Lita's voice. The book is a good length too - it's not the type of thing that seems really superficial and you can read in 2 hours. I actually stayed up into the early hours to finish it because I just couldn't put it down.

The most impressive thing about Amy is just how far she went to fulfill her dream of becoming a wrestler. Most people (certainly including me!) might have dreams of one kind or another, but would never actually get around to taking any positive action to make it a reality. But when Amy decided she wanted to be a wrestler, she started judo classes and even managed to get backstage at a wrestling event. She then went to Mexico, not knowing anybody, on the off-chance that she would be able to get some wrestling training.

I have been a Lita fan for many years, since she started really. As soon as her book had come out, i came here and ordered it straight away. To begin, the book was a great look into Amy's life and the problems that had surrounded her, whether it be her family or her journey into the wrestling business. After going into detail of how she got to where she was, she gave the readers an insight to what its like backstage and the preparing for matches etc. Amy isn't afraid to give her opinion on past situations she found herself in and was very honest throughout. For a very private person she was very open in telling her story.
A great read for any Lita/Amy Dumas or wrestling fan and is worth every penny.

I am one of the biggest wwe fans there is but have not always been the biggest fan of Lita so was unsure whether to purchase this book or not.
Well i certainly made the right decision - this has some wonderful insights of the life of Amy aka Lita and she talks in great detail about her personal life from her ups and her downs.
I found her chapters on her real life boyfriend Matt Hardy very interesting and overall this is another great biography to accompany the other wwe biographys that are out there.
Fully recommended!
