Jim Pym has managed to write an extraordinarily personal and thorough introduction to the Quaker way of life. I am not sure whether it was meant to serve as an introduction; however, it may certainly be read as such.
Having read Listening to the Light, I now see Friends (Quakers) and Quaker Worship in a different light. Suddenly, I understand things which I have so far spent quite a few years trying to comprehend.
It is a very simple presentation, very warm. I will definitely keep reading it again and again, and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Quakerism.

On reaching the last page, I went straight back to the first. And then again.
This is the introduction to Quakerism I was hoping for when I purchased another book. The other turned out to be a good book, this is a much better introduction.
Really nice, easy read, but very informative. I love it. It also contains Advices and Queries, a core piece of Quaker text.
Highly recommended.

Depth of spiritual practice is often judged by its complexity but Jim Pym argues that in fact simplicity is of greater value.
Quaker simplicity and silent worship is closely related to ideals of peace and social improvement, and the aim of the Quaker life is 'to give people that state of inner peace where war, violence and injustice cannot exist.'
Pym's previous background in catholicism and buddhism help give the book depth and wisdom. Both established Quakers and those interested in learning more will find this book extremely valuable.
I love this book and have read large parts of it several times.
