I first read this book when it jumped out at me from the shelves in 1995. I have since bought 15 or so copies to give to friends and people that I felt would benefit from it's wisdom. So many of us these days do not actually listen to our own inner wisdom or gut reactions to things that we are experiancing. I have read it four or maybe more times, usually when I don't trust myself and need to find some inner strength and faith.Blackwolf Jones is a Native American Healer and is a reformed drinker who entered sobriety in 1977.His teachings are relivant to everyone who has a lack of faith in theirselves or some addication. I think it will give everyone a new pespective on many things. To be read time and time again. I am now about to buy it again for another friend in need of some "listening to their drum!"

Listen to the Drum is the one dose of medicine everyone on the planet should have. This book has completely validated long held beliefs and intentions. Blackwolf Medicine shows us that we are the "middle men" of the universe. Living in the space between the beats, now! Our unique human-ness allows us to mediate the world. The drum shows how to do so harmoniously. For our planet and inhabitants to heal, we must harness our own energy, intent, and focus, and remove our own unhealthy self-importance. This process starts by reconnecting with our own source, and extending that connection to all we encounter, be it fellow human, rock, or tree. The amazing potential of our role in the universal unfolding of life is only available if we allow ourselves to cast off our collective belief that we are the only beings who "feel". Commune with your soul, let the Drum Medicine usher you to a new consciousness.

This book takes a while to read, ponder, read, ponder. I am still reading and pondering! It is a delightful book with insights into the Native American traditions. It teaches patience and how to remember the earth is not owned by anyone.
3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good material 9 Jan 2013

Great for what it is - a self help book. Not exactly what I was expecting from this book, though - I thought it would be more about the Native American spirituality as a whole. However, it offers wonderful advice and is very well written, so even though it's not what I thought it would be, I still highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking to know themselves better, for whatever reason.
