Product Description

Review

"It is a masterpiece worthy of its heritage, offering the unique richness that was evident in the original work. As such, it should be viewed as a necessary if occasional resource for the general psychiatrist and as an absolute requirement for the training and practice of consulting psychiatrists." ( Journal of Clinical Psychiatry , 2011) "The book is ambitious in its scope and although running to over 900 pages does not feel cumbersome to handle. … Like its predecessors, [it] is an essential addition to the library of any general, liaison or old–age psychiatrist or neurologist." ( Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry , December 2009) "It is impossible to review this book in any conventional sense—indeed it is unnecessary given its almost legendary status... My overall impression of the book is that the authors have done a remarkable job of bringing this classic text up to date." ( British Journal of Psychiatry, 2010) "The benchmark for all the other neuropsychiatry textbooks on the market and should be required reading for any card–carrying neuropsychiatrists (and psychiatrists) or behavioral neurologists!" ( Doody′s , April 2010)

Review

For three decades psychiatrists have turned to Lishman’s Organic Psychiatry as the standard neuropsychiatry reference. It stood as the last great single author reference text in medicine, a combination of meticulous, exhaustive research conveyed in a beautifully clear style. Now the mantle has been passed to a group of five distinguished authors and it is to their considerable credit that the attributes which made Organic Psychiatry such a distinctive voice remain. The fourth Edition of Lishman’s Organic Psychiatry is a rich blend of detailed clinical inquiry and up to date neuroscience. It should be on every psychiatrist’s book shelf. –– Professor Anthony Feinstein MPhil, PhD., FRCP, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, Canada "This is an elegantly produced update of Lishman′s classic text, containing all the essentials for anybody involved in neuropsychiatry or indeed in general psychiatry with its broadest reaches. The authors have maintained the flow of Lishman′s original work, meaning that it is still a book packed with knowledge that nevertheless can be read with ease and also with pleasure." –– Professor Michael Trimble , Institute of Neurology, London, UK

I have read this book from its first edition. What began as compilation of case reports has grown into nicely edited textbook with lots of informed opinions by experienced neuropsychiatrists from UK.Every psychiatrist regardless of subspeciality needs this book on their desk. Oh! did I forget to mention GPs, neurologists, A&E doctors....

fantastic review of organic psychiatry. Am using this book as a PGY 2 resident in Psychiatry training with hopes to complete a consultation psychiatry fellowship after residency. Was recommended by a clinical faculty mentor and I have not been disappointed. Would highly recommend.

Lives up to it's name 18 Feb. 2012
By Antonz - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I was reticent at first. The editors and authors have large shoes to fill, but they accomplish this admirably and in the process manage to update a classic. This is a must for psychiatrists and neurologists.

The newly released soft cover edition is a steal.

The gold standard 7 Feb. 2011
By B. Chwalisz - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Phenomenal review of neuropsychiatry. In-depth discussions of pathophysiology and presentation, with well-chosen case vignettes. Best of all: For such a momentous tome, it was a surprisingly good read (cover to cover). Hats off to the English for delivering this masterpiece.

Throw everything else out 22 Aug. 2009
By David Bresch Md - Published on Amazon.com

Throw every other neuropsychiatry text out. This is as much a delight as the APA Textbook of Neuropsychiatry was a disappointment (despite a lovely contribution from Osview and a strong neuroanatomy chapter). Get this, Mesulam and Hodges and you are set for the Neuropsychiatry board. Missing any discussion of neuronanatomy, however.
