4.0 out of 5 stars OH MY!, 28 Aug 2008
By Stuart M. Field "i am batman" (norwich) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I think this is the first album in a while (aside from The White Stripes' Icky Thump) that has been a real blast to listen to. This is not fakesoul-searching ala Coldplay or all those awful jerky guitar, mockney singing bands that seem to be spreading like a plague. This is a brilliantly written, brilliantly performed, brilliantly produced album, with lots of invention and great melodies. This is band of three talented individuals playing to their strengths. The drumming is excellent, as are the Police-esque bass lines; but the real star is Mike Jackson's guitar, a great mixture of Graham Coxon and Stephen Malkmus, you will swoon at some points, believe me. Singer James is a great performer and uses his full range here and it sounds like he is having a blast singing these excellent songs.
This is a pop album, and I say that as a compliment, this is an album that will stay glued to your Hi- Fi and believe me, you will find yourself singing these tunes long after the album has finished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, 31 Aug 2008
By Nerosaki (Manchester) - See all my reviews
Fantastic album with a range of great songs from some instant crowd pleasers to some real growers - this is going to be at the top of my play list for good while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent indie, 28 Aug 2008
OK so I'm partisan but Tin Man have emerged from the ashes of C/O/R/D a stronger and more focussed band.
There's less pretension. Just good music.
The tunes still have that magic Cord hallmark - you find yourself humming them long after you last heard them.
Lyrics are memorable " nobody's saying what we all know is the truth ... there's an Elephant in the room / and he's smashing up the furniture" doesn't really sound like a catchy refrain but it IS.
Superbly engineered as well - Mr Pye is a genius. Official.
Doesn't perish after the third hearing and is kinda compulsive. Very highly recommended. Would be in to top 50 charts for sure if NROne weren't such a niche label (they are rather good, but tiny!)
