Inspired initially by Laurie Lee (a distant relative of Lionel's wife, Anne), Lionel Agget has long been consumed by the light, colour and raw splendour of Spain, particularly Andalucia. The book traces his creative and artistic instincts as he travels the varied landscape of Cantabria, Castilla-Y-Leon and the high plains of Castilla-La-Mancha, with its romantically positioned windmills. The book reveals Lionel's awareness of the contrast this landscape forms with the view southwards from the Desfiladero de Despenaperros as he passes into Andalucia. Whether it be the splendour of Cuenca or the intoxicating atmosphere of the vineyards in Navarra and La Rioja, Lionel absorbs the essence of each landscape before its moment of perfection is recorded on canvas.

I bought this book as a present for someone who was thinking of moving to Andalucia. It appeared to be a nice "coffee table book". When it arrived I had a look through this book before giving it to the real recipients and I was blown away. Not only is it an excellent "coffee table book" full of glossy, glorious pictures but the text is entertaining, informative and engaging.
The author, Lionel Aggett, helps us understand this wild and rugged yet beautiful countryside. We journey with him through Lemon Country in his camper van (an added bonus as I am a VW fan) and explore all the hidden beauties via his interesting narrative and his fantastic pictures. I am not a great "art-afficionado" but I know what I like and Lionel Aggett's paintings are ones that I like.
If you want to travel to Andalucia without leaving your sofa I recommend this book heartily. If you want to travel to Andalucia get this book and see what you can expect to see and discover some hidden areas that the guidebooks don't tell you about.
