Disney's 1994 animated feature, The Lion King, was a huge smash in cinemas and continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed stage production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is deposed by a jealous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking and the songs from Tim Rice and Elton John, accompanied by a colourful score, are more palatable than in many recent Disney features. --Tom Keogh

Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Lion King Double Play (BluRay +DVD) released in November 2011 is a 5 star product. No doubt in my mind. Picture and Sound quality are superb and the film is a true classic that speaks for itself. However reading through some of the reviews shown here, it appears that they have been mixed up and do not always relate to this package - some relate to Region 1 US read along issues for example. Choose your review with care!

Format:DVD
In my option this is the Best Film that Disney have made, the DVD quality has just made the film more enjoyable to watch. The extras on Disc 1 & 2 make this a must have for any Disney Buff or any one with young children.
I did had problems accessing the Original 1994 Version on Special Edition DVD, the “play” icon on the main menu just seemed to play the New Version of the Lion King.
I called Buena Vista Home Entertainment, they informed me that you need to do the following;
Wait for the main film menu to appear, then go to set-up Icon, in set-up go to the Languages Icon and lastly in Language menu you will find Original Version, (just under Hebrew).
Thank you for reading my review and I hope it helps anyone who thinking about buying this DVD or anyone who had the same problem as me.

Format:Blu-ray
This has to be one of the best Disney 3D films i have seen i couldn't fault the 3D at all. But if you buy this version of the lion king be aware that the normal 2D version of the film could stop other disney titles and others playing on your machines.
There must be some sort of fault with the 2D blu-ray disc as i found i had the problem of others not playing. I found i had to unplug my machine at the mains just to get other films to work.
You pay all this money and you want both versions to work just in case you dont want to watch the 3D version.
So am just making people aware of the problems you may have if you get this version i have sent disney a email about the problem.

My 5 yr old and 3 yr old love this film. Great soundtracks and heart warming story to capture the imagination of boys and girls alike

Disney were helpful

Lion king
excellent film, 3d is the best. the children were glued to their seats. I remember the original but would encourage everyone to experience the movie in 3d.
