"Five Minute Christmas Stories" is a 10 1/2 inch by 8 3/4 inch children's picture book. The illustrations are intensely and richly colored but take on a slight bit of a cartoon style. The book recounts the events leading up to, during and after Jesus' birth. You can tell that the author did some research to write this collection of historical fiction stories because he weaves Biblical customs into each story. The stories are told through the first person point of view of ten different Biblical characters. You hear the story from the points of view of Mary, Joseph, the donkey that carried Mary, the Innkeeper's wife, a quiet angel in Heaven, young shepherd boy, Fezulk - a security guard for King Herod, Balthasar - one of the Three Wisemen, and the Fir Tree deep in the Woods. A chapter is devoted to each of these character's accounts and can easily be read in less than five minutes. It is quite an interesting idea to have these Biblical characters who experienced the birth of the Lord Jesus first hand, share their experiences in their own words. One has to remember that these stories are historical fiction and if you have a problem with stories that deviate somewhat from the traditional Biblical account, this book is not for you.
I found the different first hand accounts and the character reactions to them quite interesting. While the author deviates somewhat from the traditional Biblical account of Jesus' birth, one can enjoy the observations and inner feelings of each of these characters as they tell their stories and the reader identifies with them.

Great Christmas book for both children and adults!

Truly a 5 minute story, separated into 12 small stories, this book is unique and wonderfully written. Each of the stories are from the perspective of different characters in the Birth Story. We look forward to reading these each night as we await Christmas to arrive! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a new and interesting tradition in their house at Christmastime!
