Product Description

Product Description

Omega 3 is an essential polyunsaturated fatty acid used by the body and may help to maintain a healthy heart and brain function. It is ‘essential' because our body cannot make omega 3 but rather it must be obtained through our diet.

It is generally accepted that oily fish are high in omega 3, however, flaxseed is one of nature's richest plant sources of omega 3 with 51 percent of the fat being this important fatty acid. One serving (30g/1oz) of linwoods milled organic flaxseed provides 7.2g of omega 3.

Ingredients

100% Organic Flaxseed.

I'm a low carb diabetic and I make a bread substitute with this ground flax seed. Flax is, apparently, a fruit and not a grain, who knew?

Flax bread: 150g flax seed, 25g melted butter, 2 eggs, beaten, 1 teaspoon bi-carb soda (raising agent), 2 generous pinches salt a little water to mix to a soft (not sloppy) consistency. Dump it all into a bowl and mix it up. Divide the mixture between 10 cupcake cases (smooth off with the back of a teaspoon because whatever shape you leave it in is what you get at the other end) and bake at 180C for 20 minutes. Yeah, sure you can't make a BLT with it, but you can slap butter on it. If you're low carbing then you're probably avoiding grains, but OK with animal fats, so this works just fine. Google low carb diabetic for real explanations.

I assume that anyone reading this already knows what organic flaxseed is, so I'll just comment on this particular Linwoods brand. It comes very well packaged in a nice pouch, that you can re-seal if you wish. It's a good idea to do that or store the ground flaxseed in an airtight container, as oxidation will eventually make it unsuitable for eating (if it tastes bitter, time to throw away). Sunlight is bad for this stuff too, so the pouch is good in that regard too. 425g is quite a large quantity, so unless you're using it daily you may find you can't use it all. In which case you should probably buy whole flax seeds and grind them yourself. This Linwoods Organic Flax has quite a mild, nutty taste. It's certainly not an overpowering flavour by any means, so you can add it to most foods without spoiling the taste and perhaps enhancing it depending on your point of view. I've never had a problem myself, but I have read in many places that if you are not used to eating this, start with small quantities as the high fibre content can have quite a powerful laxative effect. All in all, this is a very good product that I would recommend.

Use this product every day in porridge for brekkie, and in NutriBullet blasts (juiced smoothie drink). This is a great way to buy this product, especially taking advantage of the subscription option to lower the price further. Tastes good, it's organic, and it's a healthy option. Highly recommended!

This is the firt brand of milled flaxseed I bought. I like the taste, which is slightly nutty and it goes well with baked goods and fruit salads. Flaxseed is rich in protein and healthy oils and Linswoods one is the cheapest I could find and good quality. I still have a lot left and will be buying it again when my stocks finish.

Big fan of this product, really helps control my IBS by regulating the digestion, would thoroughly recommend. I used to buy from a major supermarket but this two pack deal is great value for money.

This is a must have for anyone wanting to lead a healthy life. It gives me that extra kick of energy that I need daily to keep up with my two boys. Oh and it keeps me regular too because of its high fibre content. Good value for money this, getting two pouches.

Easy to use and keep in the fridge, and tastes ok, too, particularly sprinkled on muesli and fruit salad.. Good value for good health!
