Product Description

Frequency band is selectable to prevent wireless overload.

Make your desktop PC wireless with the Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N PCI-Adapter with Dual-Band. Insert into available slot and you have access to the fantastic High Speed wireless network right away without laying annoying cables.

The Wireless PCI-Adapter comes with Wireless-N (Draft 802.11n), latest wireless network technology. The used MIMO technology (multiple inputs / multiple outputs) overlaps the signals of various radios per frequency band and multiplies the effected data rate. In contrast to the usual wireless network technologies in which the signal reflections can be disturbing, MIMO technology uses these reflections to extend the range and reduce dead spots in the wireless reception area. The stabile signal has a wider range, so that in wireless connections, much longer distances can be maintained than with standard Wireless G systems.

With Wireless-N increasing distance the speed advantage becomes greater. This works hassle-free with Wireless-G , Wireless-A and Wireless-B devices. If both ends of the wireless connection feature Wireless N technology, the transfer rate can be increased noticeably above Wireless G, as twice as much bandwidth is used.

With 2.4 GHz and 5GHz frequency band transmission in Dual Band Wireless networks happens simultaneously The available bandwidth is thereby effectively doubled. You can set up your network for example so that one frequency band is for video streaming while the other frequency is used for data transfer. This way, disturbances or coalitions during video playback can be prevented. The Wireless-N PCI adapter with Dual-Band enables the use of the frequency band suited best.

To protect your data, the wireless connection is coded with the standard WPA2 encryption. The set-up assistance leads you through the configuration of the adapter step by step to set up your network.

Highspeed-Wireless-N is perfectly suited for media-intense applications like video streaming , games and VoIP calling. It offers sufficient bandwidth to execute many media intense data transmissions at once, yet the performance stays constant. Connect your computer via Wireless-N, Wireless-G, Wireless-A and Wireless B networks with the Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N PCI-Adapter with Dual- Band by Linksys.

Functions

  • Performance-strong Dual-Band Wireless-N network (Draft 802.11n) for your desktop PC
  • Encryption with up to 128 Bit
  • MIMO technology creates a reliable signal thanks to various radio devices, transmitted farther and reducing dead spots.
  • User-friendly set-up assistant
  • Investment protection: compatible with wireless networks of the standards Wireless-A (802.11a), Wireless-B (802.11b) and Wireless-G (802.11g)
  • Compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Vista 64-Bit

The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band adds wireless connectivity to your desktop computer. Install it into an available slot in your computer, and enjoy great high-speed wireless network access without running wires. The Wireless-N PCI Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N’s “Multiple In, Multiple Out” (MIMO) technology is designed to multiply the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce “dead spots” in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G. With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G, -A, and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the throughput can be increased far beyond standard Wireless-G by using twice as much radio band. Dual-band wireless networks are designed to operate in both the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz radio bands at the same time, effectively doubling the available wireless bandwidth. For instance, you could set up your network to handle video streaming on one radio band, and use the other band for simultaneous data transfers -- avoiding any interference or collisions that would degrade the video performance. The Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band allows you to connect using whichever band works the best for your situation.

My main reason for purchasing this was because I had upgraded my computer from a Windows XP Pro operating system to Windows 7 x64 Pro. The previous adapter I had no longer worked and I needed a replacement quick. I did a bit of research to find a Windows 7 compatible wireless adapter and found that Cisco offered the best range at the time.

This product was easy to install and was indeed compatible with Windows 7 x64. I've not had a problem with it; this adapter offers quick connectivity and fast download speeds with our wireless broadband. In comparison to my old adapter, my download speeds have increased quite significantly.

You won't be disappointed with this product; I can guarantee it will work with Windows 7.

Great card 28 Oct 2011
** This review is partially technical, but will hopefully help others in a similar situation. ** (slightly modified from the Edimax review I wrote earlier)
I previously had an Edimax EW-7612Pin which was supplied pre-installed in a new computer. However it wasn't giving me the performance I needed and I upgraded to a WMP600N-EU - my experience follows:
Using the Edimax card connected to my Linksys WRT160N it connected at a reported 300Mbps (using the 40MHz channel). However, transfer rates were still little more than about 4 or 5MB/sec. I upgraded the WRT160N router to a Linksys E3000 which is a dual band 2.4Ghz/5GHz router. However, the EW-7612PIn is not dual band and is not able to connect at 5Ghz, only 2.4GHz, and for some reason, with the E3000 it would never use the 40MHz channel; this meant that it could never establish a link at 300Mbps, but in fact only 72Mbps, that is, 2.4GHz band with the 20MHz channel. With that, my transfer rates were still limited to 4 or 5MB/sec.

I swapped out the EW-7612PIn card for a Linksys WMP600N-EU which IS a dual band card. With both transceivers on the router configured to broadcast the same SSID, the card was then able to take advantage of the dual band (and of course 5GHz/40Mhz), and despite only connecting at 130Mbps (likely due to obstacles/interference), I saw a significant improvement on transfer rates with tests showing initial transfer rates of 10MB/sec, dropping down to around 7 to 8MB/sec sustained for larger files. I'm not sure why it can't sustain 10MB/sec, but this is still a significant improvement over 4 or 5MB/sec with the Edimax card.

The WMP600N was very easy to install and after first installing the drivers, then the card itself in a standard PCI slot, it then worked straight away - this was under Windows 7 64bit.

I have two solid concrete walls which no wireless Internet seemed to penetrate. Used in conjunction with the Cisco E4200 it worked better than planned. I can stream HD video without any loss, so worth every penny.
