4.0 out of 5 stars Quick n Easy! 23 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Needed a USB wireless adapter, and wasn't keen on the "stick" variety so took a gamble with this one.
Fortunately the gamble payed off, installing on a Windows XP system is a doddle. The instructions are to the point, and the installation steps are easy to follow (basically, plug it in, and insert the installation CD when windows detects new hardware).
The adapter works perfectly. My access point is a couple of rooms away, but I was able to turn the access point transmit power down to 6%, and everything worked great! I have given only 4 stars... that's because I haven't found a way of turning the Linksys's transmit power down too.
It comes with a sticky pad, so you can stick it on a cupboard or somewhere (ideally away from electrical equipment). But the bit with the sticky pad can be slid away from the main unit, so if you need to take it somewhere you don't have to worry about removing the sticky pad. See, they put some thought into it!
Just a word about compatibility - this only works with XP / Windows 2000, so if you're using 95/98/ME this won't work for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, works, end of story 16 Oct 2004
I was prepared for an installation nightmare, but this really could not have been simpler. Plug in cable, pop disc in drive, 30 seconds later I was on my wireless network and the internet. I bought Linksys because other Amazon reviews were positive; they weren't wrong, it seems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well with the Linksys Broadband Router 4 Jan 2006
By A Customer
We bought this product, with the matching Linksys Wireless G Broadband router WRT54GS, to connect a second computer by a Wireless LAN to a computer which was already linked to broadband via the NTL cable company in the UK. Both computers were Dells, 2005 vintage, running XP. Having read the computer press, we were scared about whether we non-experts would be capable of making the system work. There were indeed a few glitches (eg the router we bought had been returned by a previous owner and had to be re-set by pressing a button); but on the whole, installation was reasonably straightforward: we managed it in about 90 minutes. The installation instructions on the supplied CD are comprehensible and all the necessary wires are supplied. Downside: the signal strength is not great ' across several walls and about 30 feet, we couldn't get more than 65%. But it works OK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linksys Wireless-G adapter 2 Jan 2005
Bought this wireless adapter about a month ago for a PC situated about 2 rooms away from my wireless router. I'm very happy with it so far and have had no problems with it.
Set up was easy - just plug it in and install the software. Not much else to be said about that really. Set up took about 10-15 mins, including getting it set up to access my WEP and MAC address enabled wireless network. A little tip which may save time is to turn the security on your wireless network off while you are installing and setting up this adapter. Then once it is successfully installed and conected to the (now unsecured) wireless network, re-enable all the security features on your router. The linksys adapter will then ask for the WEP key when it tries to reconnect. Enter the key which will be saved, and then your PC should automatically connect to the network every time it is switched on.
Signal strength is nearly always at full, and likewise for the network speeds which are nearly always at the full 54Mbps speed of my router.
All in all, a very nice piece of kit, which does exactly what it says on the tin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up & Running in no time! 21 April 2005
By Stuart
Very happy with this purchase. Bought for a laptop, but I'm beginning to wish I'd bought it for my desktop instead of a PCI wireless card. Easy and smooth to install, works a treat. I'm not exactly a computer guru, but was up and running in no time without the customary wailing and gnashing of teeth - it pretty much does itself with an easy to follow set-up interface. It really was no trouble at all. Good connection speeds all over the house. I was a little worried about the encryption supported, because I couldn't see if it supported WPA, which is what I use for my networked desktops,(it says something about supporting 128 bit encryption - maybe that was a clue for others, but I just wasn't 100% sure), but it supports both WEP and WPA - shouldn't have worried really!
I like this. I can't see any reason not to. Does exactly what it was bought for in a trouble free manner. You know how you sometimes worry if you've bought exactly the right thing until you've actually got it home? Well, no such worries here - highly recommended!
I only hope this puts an end to fierce competition in our house for computer time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Once You Drop the Linksys Software 27 Jan 2006
Purchased version 4 of this USB connector and it worked well straight after the box. The only problem I had with this device is that it failed to connect to my wireless network after I put my machine into standby, and then resumed it. The linksys software would show that it was attempting to fetch a dynamic IP address from the router but then fail.
Having uninstalled the Linksys software and manually installed the drivers I now use the inbuilt wireless network management in Windows XP (MCE), and it works perfectly! Fantastic connection speed and very happy.
One of the reviews on here mentions that the device does not support WPA, but my network is encrypted with WPA and this device worked perfectly.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy
Effortless to use and install, works prefectly. Buy it with confidence. (I use it with a Linksys Router - which perhaps enables this efficiency).
