The Instant USB Disk is bus-powered, so it doesnt require an external power supply. When youve got data to move, just slip the Instant USB Disk into your pocket. No need to burn CDs or use slow floppy disks the Instant USB Disk makes portable data storage a snap to use.

Perfect little gadget,

This review is from: Linksys Instant USB Disk 128MB (Personal Computers)
This is a fine USB drive, working without any problems on Windows XP, Windows 98 (comes with drivers for this), and Linux (Red Hat 7.3).Windows installation is a synch (you just plug it in and it appears as a new drive), but Linux installation can be a bit more challenging. When you plug it in, Linux recognises the drive as a SCSI device, probably attaching it to /dev/sda1 or similar. If your Linux installation recognises new USB devices, it is probably very easy to use from this point. However, I had to create a /mnt/usbdrive directory as root, and mount the drive using "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive" (not for beginners). The pack also includes a USB extension lead which you plug into the back of your computer; you can then attach the drive to the other end, meaning you don't have to dig around at the back of your computer to plug it in. Useful for carrying files between home and work, or to meetings; also useful for taking your backups with you. Transfer speed is great (much quicker than a zip disk). There's no software to encrypt the files you put on the disk, but you could use your own and just transfer encrypted files. There's also no physical lock mechanism to prevent you overwriting the contents.

This plugs into your USB port and acts like another disc. Great for getting large files off another computer, or for sharing files with colleagues. It is very slim which means that I do not have to unplug the power cable on my notebook. Data transfer is fast. It works well on Windows 2000, but check to see if it works on your operating system. In my job it has been one of the most useful gadgets for the last few years.

Durable, sleek, cross-platform file storage,

As a student I found this device to be extremely handy. If you are tired of broken jewel cases or bent floppy disks in your backpack, the durable Linksys USB Drive is just for you. If you use different computers between home, work and school, the small and lightweight Linksys USB drive travels with ease. The main advantage of this device is that it works on multiple platforms. I've used in on a Mac iBook, Windows 2000 Pro and Windows 98. No drivers are required except for Windows 98. A CD-ROM with software is included but you can also access the drivers on the Linksys website if your workstation does not have a CD drive. The box also contains a USB extension cord, so if your desktop computer does not have front USB access you do not have to constantly reach behind your computer to insert the drive. Overall, I rate this product highly. I recommend it to students and geeks alike! Update: Still working as of June 2004 - no drivers required for Windows XP. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful:

Versatile!,

Bought this item in June and it has worked flawlessly. I swap files between Windows 2000 at work and Windows ME at home. The only issue with W2K is that I have to boot the computer with the USB disk installed in the port, or it won't be recognized. But then I can take it in and out as often as needed until I reboot. So I just have to plan ahead or face a shut down and startup. There are no issues with ME, it just works. So much more convenient than burning CD's! One minor complaint, the attachment to the case seems a bit weak, in other words, it comes out very easily. I'd never trust it around my neck. Great product. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful:

Works as advertised, fast, easy and the case is pretty solid (seems like it would be pretty tough to break. I've had great success with Linksys products overall - continued here.
