1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 29 April 2008
By G. Haywood - See all my reviews

To be honest i wouldn't waste your money on this, it's basically a load of people 'close' to Linkin Park telling you things you could find out on the Internet in about 5 minutes, such as how the band started etc. The DVD says it includes exclusive interviews with the band but in reality it contains a few VERY brief clips of them in random interviews you could find anywhere. Literally they only say a few words. It also includes no music by Linkin Park so it's not even good for listening to! I was really disappointed, i've heard that the 'Live In Texas' DVD is good so i'm going to get that, wish i had before i'd got this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent documentary DVD release, 18 Jul 2008

I've bought a few DVDs about other artists from this company before and although they always have a slightly cheap, cobbled together feel to them, on the whole they're mostly pretty good.

In terms of hard facts and details about the band, it's a little vague and as the other reviewer said, you could find it all a lot easier on the internet, but then, these DVDs are largely aimed at fans who buy anything related to the band and so i guess it's assumed you already know the basic facts about the band.

Yes, there isn't any music by the band included but the soundtrack fits the feel of the band and never feels jarring or intrusive. The talking heads document the beginnings of the band in California through their multi-million album selling success with Hybrid Theory and Meteora. There's nothing to do with Minutes to Midnight on here but the DVD feels snappy and well paced, the talking heads seem pretty knowledgable about the band and have some interesting tales to tell about the band.

What i like most about this DVD is that it is respectful to the band. There's no tacked on shoddy hand-held camera footage of concerts or cheesy titles sequences. The talking heads are full of praise for the band and it just goes to show what an impact Linkin Park have had on people, the message and sound of their music holding strong with all kinds of people right across the world.

One of the themes this DVD is keen to emphasise is keen business mind the band have and details the labels' initial doubts at signing the band, only realising their true potential when the public attention raised by street teams and massive radio airplay proved to them what an impact the band were having. You also get a good impression about the band's work ethic in the studio. High production values has always been a trademark of Linkin Park's sound and the details of their many recording rigs set up in the band members houses and tour bus is really interesting.

So, for an unnoficial DVD, i was impressed. It's not for everyone, but if you're a fan of the band, have an open mind and want to give it a shot, it's well worth buying. A good length, well paced and well edited - it just goes to show that if some effort is put into these unnoficial DVDs then it really shows. Sure, it'll never have the feel of the genuine, official products, but for collectors of the band, this is a nice release.
