For anyone who is a huge Linkin Park fan this CD and particulary the DVD is a must buy. There's 68 minutes of footage from the Texas leg of their 2003 Summer Sanitarium Tour. 17 songs covering their 3 studio albums 'Hybrid Theory', 'Reanimation' and 'Meterora' are belted out to a huge crowd who join in singing, and if you've ever been to a Linkin Park gig yourself will remind you of the true spirit that goes with such an occasion.
There is occasional backstage footage in between songs, and it's a shame there's not more on a seperate featurette, but we have to remember this DVD is essentially a free gift with the CD. The show itself more than makes up for any special features.
There are 2 sound options - Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 which sounds truely amazing and is still quite unusual for a music DVD to have 5.1.
This CD/DVD set is excellent value for money and I cannot recommend it highly enough for every Linkin Park fan out there.
THe DVD's great showing how the lad's can work the crowd and keep you pumping the air and begging for more. It's a good set taken from two gigs in Houston and Dallas, the crowd are enthusastic and loving it which just adds to the atmosphere. Good play list featuring all teh biggest and best tracks some of them reworked in the reanimator mould.
The CD features a shorter play list guaranteed to stay in the car cd-player on continuous for the rest of the month at least.
Top notch packagin too, booklet includes some good pictures of the guys in action for those of you who like that kinda thing
Why not 5 stars? well there's no extra's on the dvd, no multiple angles or documentarys like on the Metallica DVD's but to be honest thats a minor point and the only thing i can come up with and i'm really picking hairs, you only watch that stuff once anyway and the actual gig is AWESOME, so really its more like a 4 1/2 than a 4.
So buy it, BUY IT NOW it is BRILLIANT, your eyes and ears will LOVE YOU. i've had it a day and i've not stopped watching it
...oh and LINKIN PARK RULE
having been a fan from the early days, and being deeply naffed off with the dead-pan ham and spam festival DVD (fans will know what i mean) at last - a DVD worthy of their creative talents.
having seen them live a couple of times i can safely say that the DVD captures the spirit of an LP bash, despite the John Woo style slo-motion from time to time.
reason for 4 stars and not 5 ?
excluding the track "my december" (which when played out live just makes you shed a tear, chester's true talent springs forth) from a live set, when many old school fans love this track to me is a devilishly frustrating omission.
despite this minor whine, this pack rocks !
buy it,
play it,
love it.
