Don't be fooled by appearances because whilst its looks are dark and heavy, the range of styles this guitar is suited to is limitless. "If a superhero played the guitar, it would be the Dark Defender. Masked in a matte black disguise, with a defined body shape and its cool looks, this semi-acoustic guitar is sure to turn a few heads."

Design

Designed in-house in the UK, the unique features start at the matte black angled headstock with metallic Lindo logo and contrasting black and white laminated truss rod cover. The headstock features six die-cast chrome, smooth action machine heads for controlled and accurate tuning.

The 42mm nut width and C-shape, satin finish neck is really smooth allowing for swift lead work up and down the neck. The neck material is maple, which offers a bright tone and is coupled with a rosewood fretboard to add warmth to the overall sound.

This neck is set-in to the body, which as well as adding a distinctive sculptural look, improves the transference of string vibrations between neck and body, which ultimately provides excellent sustain through the pickups.

The matte black body has a subtle cream binding which is continued up the neck, and has the classic F-hole cut-out which exposes the hollow section. The belly cut in the body means this sits really well when played in a standing position as well as seated.

The tonewood used for the body is willow and this combined with the semi-hollow section creates a true clarity of tone as well as having fantastic sustain. This is further complimented by the tonewoods of the neck and fretboard so perfect for the lead players out there. The slender body also has a smooth cut-away design, which allows easier access to those higher frets.

Benefits

All this sound is transferred into an amp using two single coil soapbar style pickups, which are controlled by a tone/volume dial plus a 3-way selector switch to allow you to choose either the neck or bridge pickup or a combination of both to show the wide range of pure tones that this guitar has to offer. It all carries a lovely combination of the right balance of depth, warmth, definition and sparkle, both clean and distorted this guitar can hold its own ground.

The Defender has a fully adjustable chrome bridge and a stop tailpiece, which is also height adjustable and this can be used to tailor the sound and set-up in the hands of the more experienced player.

Playability

Overall the Dark Defender has it all. A stylish cool sleek look that helps it stand-out from the pack, as well as being as dark and under the radar as a stealth bomber. The Defender has the perfect blend of having a gutsy, raunchy, mellow and sweet variety of rich tones that can be controlled easily. It is accessible to all levels of player; from total novices to those with more experience.

What is a semi acoustic guitar? If you are new to the guitar world, a semi-acoustic guitar or hollow-body electric is a type of electric guitar with both a 'sound box' and one or more electric pickups.

What are the benefits? The brilliant thing about a semi-acoustic guitar is that it produces more sustain than a completely solid body electric. This means it is excellent for warm clean, strummed or finger-picked styles but is equally fantastic for lead work and solos, especially when combined with distortion or overdrive.

Very fast delivery and absolutely a fantastic guitar! The sound is really good both if played acoustically or plugged in. For some great action, plug it in and you won't be disappointed. The guitar also stays in tune for a long time (which is a sign of quality), and it looks amazing. I would recommend it to anyone, from beginners to more advanced players. In a nutshell, a fantastic guitar and an incredible value for money!

I don't know a lot about guitars, or for that matter any musical instruments. This was purchased for my 15 year old son who is a keen guitarist and already owns an electric and acoustic guitar. The electric which had been his 1st was showing signs of wear and tear and he liked the look of this model and also having viewed the YouTube video he though it sounded quite good too.

The guitar itself appears to be very solid and well constructed with no obvious external signs of cheapness or corners having been cut and my son assures me that it feels very good to play. It has a very nice sound to it as well from what I can hear.

Lindo were very good to deal with as I contacted them prior to purchase with a query about it and they were exceptionally helpful. The guitar arrived within 36 hours of purchase and was very well packaged and was received in pristine condition.

Having looked at other guitars in stores for similar prices I can say that this looks and feels like a far more expensive item and my son is delighted with it.

I'm a guitar teacher and needed a replacement for my trusty tel which is getting a bit fragile. Liking guitars which are a bit different I decided to buy. This is a really good guitar for the price: it was nicely set up, the strings do not fight you as you get on some budget guitars. The neck is not too chunky, slightly thinner than a fender standard tel, making bending and slides a joy. The soap bar pickups are quite adequate and versatile and you get a nice clean rhythm and the neck pickup is nice and warm - good for some nice jazzy blues sounds. This is more than the Rock guitar that the video makes it out to be. A great guitar for the price and a British company. Well done Lindo, good job!

Just purchased this guitar a few days ago direct from Lindo via ebay. Over the Chritmas it was on special offer for 149.99gbp so I took the plunge and ordered one, what a good decision its a superb guitar, I have owned many different guitars over the years, spanish, electrics and electroacoustics and I must say from a manufacturing build quality this guitar surpasses anything I've owned before. You only have to pick it up to realise just how heavy it is, the body is obviously composed of very dense hardwood and the finish of all the component parts is superb. The playing action is very light on the fingers which will give confidence to new guitarists. as I have no amp yet I've only played it unamplified. The tone appears nice but obviously not very loud because of the limited internal volume, all in all an excellent purchase highly recommended.

Update 16/01/13
I now have a 10w practice amp to go with the guitar and I must say the sound is fabulous, clean or overdriven.

I've owned a few guitars in my life, and although I am no great player I appreciate a decent instrument, and this is one. It is very solid and nicely finished. There are a few signs of its low cost (such as the pull off knobs) but where these have been cost cuttings they have been where it is not important. The setup was good. I needed to tweak the intonation of two of the strings slightly (very easy to do as the bridge is well made), but the action was right for me. One recommendation. Both pickups were set as low down as possible on my guitar. This is fine for the neck pickup but raising the bridge pickup (by unscrewing the two black screws) so that it is the same distance from the strings - and hence outputs at the same volume - dramatically enhances the sound.

Calling it s semi acoustic is pushing it - only the top part is hollow so it it is more a 'demi-semi acoustic'

Very quick delivery and a fantastic instrument!! Only sent it through a practice amp so far but even through that the sound is excellent. Instrument is well weighted and the matt black finish looks fantastic. Great product and brilliant value for money!

Purchased this guitar after getting the Lindo slim electro acoustic for my 40th birthday which reminded me of how much fun learning guitar should be. The Defender came well packaged and instantly looked the part. nice looks but buzzing on a couple of open strings...hmmm.....raised the bridge with a flat screw driver after being told by a Lindo adviser on the phone to see it it helped and it did. The bride is raised slightly more on one side than the other to get all strings to play a good open tone and I thought I had raised them up to high until I checked against my other guitars and noticed no difference while playing them height wise. Its nice when a simple problem has a simple solution and as my other solid guitar would need individual string settings height wise or a pro setup the bridge on the Lindo Defender gave me instant relief. I heard bad things about the tune-o-matic bridge because of a wire it uses causing unfixable buzzing on some models. Highly recomed this guitar and now will wait a month for the strings to settle before I change them for ones I prefer and if they buzz as they may be a higher gauge....the bridge will come to my help. I have tried some strumming with the strings that come with it and can tell they are not my usual ones but will keep me happy as the sound is great and even better with an amp.
