I have used this with the 7cm extention, it is an excellent gate. My 13-month old has been hanging off this, pulling it, etc and it hasn't moved at all or opened <touch wood>. Fairly easy to fit, it took only ten minutes and I didn't have to drill anything, it holds against the door opening well (it is a concrete opening not a standard wood door frame) - but you'll need a spanner to do it properly, the free one it comes with isn't great.

It has a good mechanism, we have got the hang of it now so it is easy to open with one hand (the trick is to pinch it at the thin pointy side of the opening mechanism rather than the middle!). It is solid, looks nice and to be honest for the price you can't go wrong (I paid £20 on Amazon which I was happy with but see it has now come down in price)

Also remember when you get it out of the box for the first time there is a big gap between the door opening and the side, this is normal, it is not until you fit it that the door locks properly (if that makes any sense at all).

I actually bought this to keep the dog in the kitchen. Easy to fit. Couldn't have asked for more. Perfect.

What more can you ask for...this is a good gate, good quality, cheap, easy to assemble and to use. I started with one and now have 4 around the house, used for both toddler and dogs!

I have read reviews about it being hard to open...it really isn't unless your completely useless with your hands or are no good at multitasking. Even my nan can use it easily :)

I have read reviews about toddlers being able to open it....there is absolutely no way a toddler could open it, they are simply incapable of pressing a button and lifting handle like that at the same time.

I have also read reviews calling it unsafe, unstable......what a load of rubbish, if its assembled properly there's no way - my 32+ kg dogs stands up at it!

Recommend? YES!!!!!!

The pros:

Easy to fit into a variety of spaces.
Locks at the bottom as well as the top
Keeps the dog in as well as the child!
I can step over it

The cons:
The bottom lock is easily undone by a two year old.
The top lock really needs two hands to undo and a bright two year old will be able to do it too if you let them see how it works.
The tensioned metal design puts a lot of pressure on the walls and bannisters. I use pieces of wood to protect the surfaces, but that still leaves the bannister creaking worryingly when the gate is tightened up.

I was looking for a stair gate that did not require any drilling because I wanted to avoid holes in banisters. The Lindam website says pressure fit stair gates 'do not require drilling or screwing to the wall'. There was a no drill picture on their website. There is, however, a picture of a drill on the box and one of the first things the instructions tell you to do is to drill four holes into the wall. It might be great once it's up but it's not as described.

Looked at the reviews for this product and was a little worried about the one handed lock and the security of it as is not a screw in gate. But was such a great deal and desperately needed to get something as my daughter (22 months) has started to climb all over the place and frequently tries to go up and down the stairs by herself.
However once I got it, it has definitely served it's purpose very well. The one handed lock works, you might have to get used to it but i have been able to use it to open the gate while carrying my sleeping daughter. The other worry was how secure the gate might be while not being screwed into the wall, but it has been working very well; even with me yanking on it trying to climb over without letting my daughter notice that I've left her in her room playing with the gate closed.

All in all a great bargain on a great product. The adjustable sides really helped to put in between wonky door frame. door swinging lock at bottom helps it from swinging the wrong way.

Bought this gate as our grand daughter is now walking and into everything when she stays, to keep her out of the kitchen.
It arrived ahead of time and is really easy to install, the only slight downside is it is hard to open with one hand.
On the good side, unlike other gates which are just a click to open (granddaughter has sussed those out)m she can't open it.
Pleased with it.
