What an amazing place Otter's Lincolnshire proves to be. Many tales of heroism, stupidity and dead airmen and the impact of servicemen and women from all over the globe on wartime Lincolnshire. It's cleverly organised in every respect bar one. The map numbering the airfields (to which one wishes to refer often as the story unfolds)should use the same numbers as the chapters for each airfield, but doesn't. That makes for complications that should have been avoided. Otherwise this is a stirring and important work on the war years that leaves one wishing for more narrative about the impact on the local civil population. Perhaps Otter could do that next...

I devoured this book when I was writing my book on Guy Gibson VC ( Kindle Heroes of the RAF - Guy Gibson VC (Hereoes of the RAF) and as a book Heroes of the RAF - Guy Gibson) . By turns informative and human it is an ideal companion and the county based format of this (and others in the series) makes it very helpful on road tours. If I have a small quibble it is that like many books written around vignettes some duplication does appear within some of the vignettes. Not a problem if being read on an airfield by airfield basis but a minor distraction when read cover to cover. Strongly recommend it.

This is an excellent book which is most informative and extremely well written. I got it for my husband who has visited a number of these airfields when serving in the Royal Air Force. He is delighted with the book and highly recommends it to anyone who is interested in wartime airfield history.
