I am a practising chartered accountant and I have found the previous version of this book to be most useful. I was delighted when the new version was released - following the full implementation of the Companies Act 2006 in October 2009. A most useful member of our office library. Company law is a complex subject and this book could not possibly cover all requirements, but that is its great strength - it covers many of the key company secretarial processes in a clear and understandable fashion. A very good reference documents to cross reference our understanding of Company law matters.
To be clear, this is not a guide on how to prepare statutory financial statements for a limited company and does not claim to be so. Of course, one of the statutory duties of company directors is to prepare and file statutory accounts with its members and Companies House. Of course, the book does alert the user to this statutory duty but stops there. Preparation of statutory company accounts is a complex subject requiring detailed knowledge of accounting standards, tax law and the understanding of large parts of the Companies Act as well as needing considerable accounting experience. It appears that the previous reviewer (Sharpe) has misunderstood the purpose of this book - which is to assist the directors with the company secretarial duties.
