I'll be the first to admit that this album was an easy buy; I've been a fan of Matt Good's since Beautiful Midnight. But the degree of change between his music with the band and his solo career is a great one. As I get older I notice my taste in music is changing, and with Matt Good, I'm preferring his slower stuff to the rock. This album has a couple faster paced songs, but for the most part it's a slow/acoustic/melodic album with lyrics that will sometimes cause you to pause the song and really think about them. So far, most of my favorite lines from any of his songs recide in this album. You can tell he's older and has learned a lot and reflects on his past, present, and future, as we all do. Sometimes what he says is painful, other times hopeful, or he nails a familiar chord. LOES also stands on it's own compared to Avalanche, Hospital Music, and Vancouver...each album was different in it's own way. This one I feel is a great reflection, almost where Vancouver left off or should have been, seeing as it was named after his hometown. In a nutshell, If you like Matthew Good and haven't purchased this album, get on it; you won't be disappointed.
